Fred Thompson, R.I.P.
Fred Thompson announced today that he is withdrawing from the Presidential race. He strikes me as a good conservative, who deservest to have a god life. I trust that he will have it (being President just did not seem that important to him anyway--which may mean he would have been a great one).
Fred's problem is that he did not hit the ground running. He had a window, and failed to take advantage of it. I still think he might have been a really good President, but just did not know how to run for the office.
That is what I said, in this blog," in endorsing MITT ROMNEY for President (before Iowal). Despite Romney's flaws, he is the only Republican candidate with a chance for the nomination (true BEFORE Iowa) who will not, in my view, DESTROY the conservative movement as we now know it.
I have accused Rush Limbaugh of being "Hamlet", for failing to recognize this sooner (see previous entries, and entries ever since, and even before, Iowa). Limbaugh has now taken out after Huckabee and McCain, but it MAY BE TOO LATE. If we get McCain, do Limbaugh and Hannity share responsibility for aiding the destruction of the conservative cause ("to take a position, or not take a position, that was the question")
I have said so in "The Maverick Conservative, and believe it to be true. I think Hannity and Limbaugh abandoned conservatives when they were needed most--BEFORE IOWA.
