Rush Limbaugh, Whiner?
I asked this question a few weeks ago, and I think it is becoming even more relevant (see previous entry). Is Rush Limbaugh becoming more of a WHINER, than a real leader of the conservative cause (Sean Hannity, on the oather hand, I think is simply in danger of becoming IRRLEVANT).
This bitter reaction to Huckabee and McCain (especially to the disparraging remarks of some in the Huckabee campaign) has a WHINING tone. As stated previously, this is especially true because Limbaugh (in his Hamlet mode) was taking the position that he was NEUTRAL in the Republican nomination--attempting to deflect callers complaining of apparent disparaging remarks about one candidate or another with flat statements to that effect. In fact, Limbaugh would say flatly that ALL of the Republican nominess are superior to ALL of the Democrtic nominees.
Now Limbaugh is sayaing that he MIGGHT not even vote for the Republican nominee (my LONG held position on McCain--no Hamlet me, as I do not say "might"). But the COYNESS, and seeming unwillingness to meet the problem of conservative leadership head on, REMAINS.
Rush, just today, as he tried to laugh off stories of his apparent loss of clout, dismissed a story mentioning that statement that Rush "might" not vote Republican as irrelevant, since he had used the word "might".
Are we back to Hamlet?
Rush is stil entertaining, and an often brilliant exponent of conservative values. But conservatives may be facing a CRISIS OF LEADERSHIP.
Hannity, to my view, has never shown the ability to be more than an abrasive cheerleader (even though I agree with Hannity on issues all the way down the line) Rush has been the MAN for MANY YEARS. He may finally be on the downside of his career as a conservative leader (no one can keep it up forever).
Looking at politicians, the situation is so much WORSE. There is no Republican on the horizon fit to lick the boots of Rush OR Hannity as a conservative thinker/leader.
Where ARE the conservative leaders? We better find some quick. That is why i endorsed Romney. It is not that I thought he was going to be a stirring conservative leader--I knew he would not be that. But I hoped/thought that he would be a satisfactory head of the "conservative" party until new leaders emerge (something I do NOT think is true of McCain, Giuliani, or Huckabee). I still think I am right on that, and am not withdrawing my prediction that Romney will be the eventual President (not to mention nominee).
Nevertheless, a leadership void appears to be developing in the conservative movement. If Rush indeed does start to WANE, we have a dual problem: Not only is there no new Reagan in sight; there is no new RUSH in sight either.
