President Bush: Big Government Guy
Yes, the State of the Union speech showed again why Rush Limbaugh and I do NOT regard President Bush as a "conservative".
WHERE was the Reagan rhetoric about big government being "part of the problem, and not part of the solution"?
You can look hard, but you won't find it. Oh, there were BELATED (six years late) sops to stopping "earmarks" (with NO "explanation" of why it took SIX YEARS, and the loos of a Republican Congress). But that was mixed in with this new Federal Government program and that new Federal Government program. More importantly, President Bush AGAIN endorsed the idea that the Federal Government is RESPONSIBLE for solving all of our problems, and even all of the world' problems. That is LEFTIST rhetoric. The evidence is just conclusive. President Bush is a Big Government guy.
Tell me President Bush did not REALLY propose FARM SUBSIDIES for the WORLD!!!! Unfortunately, you can't tell me that, because I HEARD it. He proposed money to BUY CROPS in third world countries to "fight" world hunger. What can you say about someone like that, except that he is not a conservative.
Even on AIDS, where you can certainly argue that money to stop the worldwide epidemic is indicated--in our interest--there was NO mention (as there never is) that it is a CONDUCT driven disease. There was, as usual, no mention of trying to change the CONDUCT that produces the disease.
There was talk of FEDERAL MONEY for "faith based" (and other private) education choice for inner city children. But the SOCIAL ISSUES upon which President Bush was supposedly re-elected in 2004 were pretty much missing in action. WHY should "evangelicals" (or ANY of O'Reilly's "culture warriors", like myself) TRUST Republicans to FIGHT for their "values", when Republicans clearly have no STOMACH for it anymore. That is why I am not as negative on Mike Huckabee (who will not be the nominee) as Rush Limbaugh. I agree that Mike Huckabee is not, overall, a conservative. But he is the ONLY Republican now really willing to even TALK (volunarily, without being specifically asked) about "social issues".
Nope. The State of the Union speech does NOT tell you good things about the state of teh Republican Party in America--at least from a conservative point of view.
It is GOOD that this was President Bush's last State of the Union address (I agreewith Hillary Clinton on that) Despite his good work on the War on Terror, which is the area which makes me not regret voting for him, it is time for President Bush to GO. He has done an awful lot to SABOTAGE the Republican Party, from immigration to spending to big government. And it has NOTHING to do with Iraq. He has certainly done his best to do in the donservative movement on domestic issues.
President Bush has been more reponsible than any other person for Republicans focusing on the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT as our salvation in all areas. We MAY need a Hillary Clinton Presidency to produce Ronald Reagan's real heir--someone who will AGAIN talk about government as part of the problem, instead of the solution.
