Feeling Happy
Hearing morning preschool music.....
crochet as savior
Is it possible to find your personal savior in the process of crochet, especially when morning preschool music is the first wake up call of the early am? I actually have a project or two within arms reach for quick access but the coffee is actually a priority just before crochet. I'm expanding my horizons a bit and adding beaded crochet items, like fun jewelry, to my repertoire. Beads have recently become an interest as I am making birthday presents and playdate projects for the 4-7 year old crowd. Connecting through beads is a good intro to creative projects for youngsters and a fun way to create something simple and tangible. My almost 4 year old son likes to do "projects" with me so that he feels he is making something also (I guess he realized that it's impossible to get my all of my attention when I'm hooking away). I guess I used the term 'savior' as a way to express how the art of crochet has been a supportive and unconditional friend, encouraging me to move through all kinds of challenges and feel accomplished. Connecting with others through crochet is also a great way to find crafters doing the same thing, working through a project as they work through their day. Remember the Knit and Crochet Show is coming to Valley Forge, PA July 13-16;check out the websites with info about it like crochet.org (the CGOA site) or knitandcrochetshow.com.

Feeling Happy
Hearing nothing yet...
knit and crochet show July 13-16 in Valley Forge, PA
As many of us crocheters know, the crochet event of the summer is upon us. The KNITand CROCHET Show in Valley Forge, PA is a fantastic opportunity for fiber arts demons (like ourselves) to connect with all kinds of ideas, resources and other people around our favorite subject: CROCHET. I'm likely going alone to check out all the market place vendors and products, beginning on Friday morning at 10am. I also look forward to doing some networking with yarn companies and store owners to find out what their freelance needs may be (for creating sample patterns or providing some basic instruction classes). I've been crocheting beaded necklaces lately also and found that they are of interest to many ladies, regardless of age or personal style. There is so much freedom to create an individual look or style that becomes yours alone it's worth a try: JUST DO IT has become my motto more and more these days. Why not, it's your avenue to self expression and satisfaction. I think I've had enough coffee this morning!!

Feeling Chillin'
Hearing usually something jazzy
the world of crochet and beyond...
How many times do you think you really have something to say and don't know where to share it? It's so easy to let your daily life's routine and demands come and go, just sort of washing over you. Until suddenly you are moved into a proactive state due to a change in life circusmstance that is welcome or not. This has been the year of 2006 for me, Lori, a crochet enthusiast who didn't realize how valuable this craft was to me until it literally made my day to day life bearable, doable and then inspired. I've been interested in the fiber world for a few years now after beginning a crochet class in the winter of '03. Along we went, learning stitches, techniques while also forming a bond as friends in a group on the same journey. I have an unbelieveable instructor that has a lot of life wisdom she regularly translates, creatively into meaningful and unique projects. So here I am, nearing mid year and realizing that the art of crochet (the only fiber art that cannot be duplicated, as of yet, on a machine for mass production) has helped me find a voice of productivity and confidence. I am looking for a niche for myself in the more commercialized crochet world but also hold onto the special meaning it has for me personally. I wanted to share my passion and some thoughts on it with others that may feel the same way or may benefit from some of the issues discussed here. Let me know what you think (with a respectful and positive tone for everyone at all times, please)
