ANOTHER LOST FOR THE FDNY...

(The one on the right without the mustache)
This entry is in memory of fellow Firefighter Richard Sclafani, who was killed Sunday as he searched a burning house on Jerome St. for children attending a birthday party. Sclafani was separated from fellow firefighters, and by the time he was found, he was unconscious and badly burned.
Sclafani, 37, was overcome as he raced into the basement of a Brooklyn house where he thought children were trapped by choking smoke and heavy fire.
The muscular fitness fanatic filled in for other firefighters when they went on vacations with their families and worked holidays so other guys could have the day off with their kids.
"He had a tough outer shell, but was very sensitive inside," Fire Lt. Mike McVey said. "He would step up ... for the guys who had children. He had two nephews. He knew."
I'm posted this entry because I knew Richie or Rich as he was called by many. We used to hang out in the same chat rooms(I love FDNY & I love NYPD) some nights with other cyber friends. Although we never got to meet face to face, he was a kool person. We chatted on several occasions and joked around.
Another angel in the Fire Department in the sky. Richie, you will be missed by many and will never be forgotten. Rest In Peace!
My condolences to his family and friends as well as the two other Fire Fighters who perish in the Bronx... R.I.P.

Im so glad to see someone care so much about what we firefighters do. Richie seems like he was a very great guy and an absolutely awesome firefighter. I've attended many funerals lately. Its really starting to hit home since I haven't attended this many since 9-11 for firefighters.
Thank you Jessie. This really was a beautiful tribute for a fellow ff. - Rachel -
Jessi,
I am so sorry for your loss.

Great story Jessi with a sad ending.
Thank you for sharing. All of our hearts go out to these heroes who risk their lives every day to save others.
The bible says in John 15
"This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
No one has great love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friend."
May God forever bless our heroes and hold their families tightly.
God Bless,
Bill -
How sad... but I'm sure if you were to have asked him, he would have wanted to go this way, in the line of duty, trying to save someone. So young still, so much to live for. God speed Richie... and I hope you will be able to find some peace eventually Jessie. You have a big heart, I salute you for it.
