BRONSON ARROYO CATCHES RED FEVER: Sure, the Reds are a HR hitting team and Great American Ballpark a hitters park....but Arroyo completely crushed one at Chicago's Wrigley Field. Not the typical pitcher's knock....but one that he knew it when he hit it. Arroyo now has as many HRs [2] as the Boston Red Sox' starting outfield.....the team he was traded from. By the way, the Reds hit 6 homers in that game.
NBA ALLOWS A 13TH PLAYER: Under the new agreement, the NBA did away with the "Injured List" and created the "Inactive List". The only real difference is it gets away from teams "hiding players" on the injured list in case they may need them. Teams would create bogus injuries for these players....put them on their allotted 3-man list....and then keep them with their teams in case someone really gets hurt and they can switch them out.
Now, the NBA has the Inactive List, meaning that a team can carry 15 players with 3 deemed inactive for the game. It allows teams to keep these guys and be able to use them depending on their opponent. If they need some size against a bigger team, they'll activate an extra big man. If they need some more speed and ballhandling, they'll activate an extra guard. It also allows a team to sit a guy with a nagging injury [it used to be that he would sit and the team would be short a player] and bring a guy in to take his spot.
For the playoffs, the NBA is allowing ONE Inactive List player. So, the teams can have their typical 12-man team.....and one extra man that they can carry with them for the entire playoffs. So, each NBA team must submit their 12-man roster and one inactive at least one hour before tip-off.
MATT LEINART FIRES AGENT: Leinart, who will most likely be a Tennessee Titan in a month, fired agent Leigh Steinberg. Ahhhh....Jerry McGuire revisited. Just a hunch, but somehow the Jets will deal with the Saints to nab the #2 pick in the draft and get Leinart.
REGGIE BUSH WANTS HIS #5: Bush, who could be a Houston Texan in a month, wants to be able to wear his #5 in the NFL. Rules prohibit that. Good luck with that, Reg.
