Feeling Chillin'
Rain, Wind and clean up that yard!
Sadly, this storm is now a killer storm and is on the way to New orleans area which is below sea level. Storm surge most likely will put the French Quarter under water.
Just last week, this storm was considered a "disturbance" what was just supposed to cause us a rainy weekend. Instead South Florida was taken by suprise and now the gulf coast is in for probably the worse storm they have ever seen. I pray those who live in the areas under watch are OK and that they listen to the warnings and evacuate.....
These are the words you never want to hear from the National Hurricane Center: "PREPARATIONS TO PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY SHOULD BE RUSHED TO COMPLETION."
But South Florida is hearing them now.
The National Hurricane Center's latest advisory declares a hurricane warning for South Florida and the Treasure Coast from Florida City to Vero Beach. That means hurricane conditions are expected in the next 24 hours.
Most people who do not live in a hurricane prone area might wonder why we get so complacent here. I think it is just that get weary. Every season we are bombarded with news people telling us GET PREPARED NOW, and DONT FORGET YOUR HURRICANE EMERGENCY KIT and HAVE A PLAN! There are just times where you do not want to worry and you do not want to stockpile batteries and you do not want to sit in a 30 minute line for gas.... We all know we should but we get tired of it and enter the stage of denial...
OR
You get those who panic and push and shove everyone out of the way for the bottled water and cut ahead at the gas line and then start fights when they get approached about not waiting their turn. Dealing with those type of people could be part of why some become compacent, they DONT want to deal with those people.
Where do I fall into place? I and many others fall into a catagory in-between.... we already have our kit and we have put water bottles aside as well as batteries months ago as well as several gas cans full in storage. The lawn furniture is put up because it is just way too hot to be outside this time of year..... Come the end of hurricane season if the stuff was not needed, the kids get the batteries, the bottled water shows up at picnics and the gas ends up in the lawn mower and the cars until just before next hurricane season...... where we start all over again!
Just another day in Paradise!
