Back From Another Hike!

Yay! We have finished another hike.... well kind of. We did about 500 miles of the California Coastal Trail, from San Francisco to the Oregon border. Oh, it was so beautiful to walk along the coast. We got to see all kinds of amazing scenery. Of course we took tons of pictures, but we havent uploaded them to the computer yet. I will share some of the pictures on here when we get them ready.

This was kind of a unique trail for us, because we are usually more out in the wilderness, or at least farther away from towns, and usually only make our way into towns to resupply. But this time we walked through quite a few cute little towns along the way. Along with the great coastal scenery we got to see all kinds of wonderful creatures and birds also. And of course, no trail would be complete without seeing our share of cows.

As with most of the "trails" we have been hiking lately, we got to walk a combination of paved roads, dirt roads, trail and this time beach. Although this time some of the paved roads was highway 1, which has very narrow to no shoulder, so its a bit of an adventure itself walking along a road that some times you are only about a foot away from a car going at a decent clip. I really cant imagine riding a bike along there.

Bernie's parents came and picked us up at the Oregon border yesterday, and we made our way down the coast yesterday and today. Bernies birthday is today (a Halloween Baby), so we got to celebrate his b'day on the way back down to the Bay area.

Its always hectic feeling for me to get off of a trail. Something about getting back into normal society, especially in an area with as many people as the Bay area has. I think there is just too much going on for me. I am a small town type of girl. I had my nails all grown out, and the day we finished up the trail I chewed them all off again (one of my weaknesses when I get stressed). But I know that once I settle in again, it will be just fine. I look forward to the next couple of weeks here in town.... we will get to do some fun things.

We both wantedto continue up into Oregon and do the Oregon Coastal Trail, but the weather was just turning to icky, it was raining at least every 3 to 4 days, and it seems like its just going to get worse up in Oregon. Its no fun walking in the rain day after day, so we are going to wait to do the Oregon Coastal Trail another year, a little earlier in the fall. Over all though, our weather wasnt too bad. Toward the end we were getting rained on a little more, but it wasnt bad. We had many wonderful days with sunshine, and pretty warm weather. And we rarely had windy days, which makes a world of difference.

I could go on and on about our trip, but for now I must go. I will write more over the next couple of days. I had some interesting thoughts going through my mind as I hiked, and I wanted to share one or two of them on here. I hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween!! And I look forward to catching up on everyones journals over the next couple of days.
