Executive Orders
Weekend Assignment #32: Executive Orders
Alright, I am doing this last minute Sunday night, because I spent all weekend thinking of this asignment off and on. I have to admit, my first response to the assignment is: I would change a lot of how our government functions. Now mind you, I am not the type of person that is a politics guru, so there is much I dont know about how the whole system operates, but every bit that I do hear (which is a pretty average intake) drives me insane most of the time. Our government has such potential, and we seem to go in the wrong direction a decent amount of the time. I don't claim that I could run this country any better, but here are a couple of ideas that might have a tad of potential.
First of all, I would take all money that would have been spent on a campaign, and put it toward things I believe in. So instead of spending millions of dollars for touring around in my jet, doing tv commercials, and wasting money bashing my oponent (which is just about all I saw from this last race) I would put that money into the environment, schools, programs for the poor, etc. Why spend $1 million saying that you want to make a difference in education, when you could be making that difference in that very instant? I dont believe that any money should be spent on a presidential race, it makes a very un-fair advantage for those that have millions of dollars. Doesnt seem right to me.
Second, I would put effort into making our country more efficient. Now there are many ways this could be done. There could be more work into cutting back energy consumption. There is so much technology out there for alternative energy sources, so much could be done with them, what keeps us from exploring those options? This country has so much debt, but if efficiency was put into use with government spending, a lot of waste could be eliminated, thus freeing up a lot of money to be used throughout the country.
Third, I would make an effort to break down the strong seperation between the right and the left. How will we ever be able to be at peace with another country when we are at warwith ourselves? I don't see anything wrong with someone being on the right or left, but I dont see why each side has to be so pitted against each other, and do their best to tear the other side down. If we could find middle ground more with each other I believe this country would make great leaps forward, because we would be working together more, rather than pulling in oppiset directions.
Maybe all idealistic ideas, but they are just a few thoughts that have drifted through my mind.
