In case you couldn't tell by the subject line of my post, I'm here in California (San Francisco, to be exact) to go to tomorrow's Widgets Live conference, where our one and only Abstractioneer, John Panzer, will be speaking. Just about the entire blogs team is going to support him, so it should be a lot of fun!
I noticed a good number of you have mentioned you're having HTML problems in posts since R9 went out - we'll check it out, and see what's up. Apologies for the delayed response on the problem, but I spent the weekend up in NYC with my family celebrating my birthday, and I didn't touch my computer. Not to mention, my family uses AOL dialup for access, and, well, I know I work for AOL and should probably say "dialup is wonderful," but dialup stinks. I can't check e-mail on it, attachments are just too big these days. Thankfully, my parents' Christmas present from my brother will be broadband. Then I can check e-mail when I'm at their place.
So, I didn't check my e-mail from Thursday night until this morning. Due to the New York City Marathon this morning, I had to get to the airport three and a half hours before my flight - the marathon was going to close every road I needed to take to get there. I had to do something to waste time, and checking e-mail made perfect sense to me.
I found British Airways' wireless connection (for their business class lounge) and hopped on. I had to pay for the access, so it's not like I was stealing, but I wasn't sitting in one of their lounges either. (Huge thanks go to the Upgrade: Travel Better blog for pointing out that this was possible.) The connection was terrible, but it was enough to let me download my mail (although it took 1/2 hr for the mail to download. Ick!). I spent a good two and a half hours going through mail, and then it was time for me to wander the airport, find my gate, and get on the plane. Thank you British Airways!
Oh, and as for my birthday weekend? I had a blast. I did, indeedy, cry through all of A Chorus Line. It has very, very special meaning to me. My parents' had records for three musicals when I was a kid - A Chorus Line, Annie, and Pirates of Penzance. I liked Annie and Pirates, but A Chorus Line just grabbed on to me and never let go. I grew up with the show. My mother was shocked to realize that she knew every line of the show, and she never listens to musicals. She had just heard me listening to it that much. The show was fabulous, it was great to visit with my friends and family, and now I'm here in Cali ready to work.
I'm assuming I will have internet access from tomorrow's conference, so look for regular updates from me on what's going on there!

Yes. :) Well, the actual night of my birthday I was given a black and white cookie with a candle in it (I loooove black and white cookies). The day after - on Saturday - we went out to dinner with my brother and sister-in-law. THAT night I got an actual cake. And it was yummy. :)

Happy birthday! Sounds like you're having quite the large time there, jet-setter. I'm glad you got to see A Chorus Line. Seems like a great b'day to me.
However, the real question is: Was there cake?
