Widgets Live! Fox Interactive Media - Dan Strauss and Don Synstelien.

Fox Interactive Media (FIM) is here to announce a new platform called "Spring Widgets." FIM, of course, is the parent company of MySpace, and Spring Widgets are going to let you embed flash widgets into your MySpace (and elsewhere). I know you all are going to be way excited about this, right? If you've installed the software, the widgets can be yanked off of a site and onto your desktop. Windows only, but they say that the Mac platform will be coming soon.

They're doing a live demo, actually building a widget in front of us. It looks, anyway, pretty easy - anyone with a basic knowledge of Flash can do this (like me! Just wait until I make some goofy widget).

I'm installing the software as I write (although constantly gaining/losing my internet connection isn't helping). Once installed, though, the widgets sit nice and cute on your deskstop (hmm, just like Y! Widgets).

Two cool things, and very different things, about these widgets. If you have the software running and see a nice widget on a website, you can install it onto your desktop with one click.

The other thing I likey is that you can "send the widget" to your MySpace directly from the website. Hit the "MySpace" button, enter your username/password, tell it where to go on your profile (I chose "About Me") and voila! Widget. Well, not quite voila, it didn't quite work for me. But the idea's cool, anyway, and I'll add it to my MySpace as soon as I can.

It DID, however, work flawlessly on my AIM Page (check out the flashy clock). If you want to use it, click the little green button on the upper right of the clock. Awesome!
