Way Delayed Update on Some Issues

Sheesh. I go offline for three days, and look what happens! Sorry about that, folks, hopefully you weren't effected by the problems we had, but if you were, here's the nitty gritty.

- We had a site outage from 3:49 pm PST till 8:32 pm PST on Friday (11/10). This may have resulted in people seeing the site load realllly slow, or not at all. The backend (our servers) choked on something (I TOLD them not to swallow those hot dogs without chewing...) and caused the problems. The operations folks who handle the servers will be doing some detailed investigation into the cause today, so, of course, we can make sure it doesn't happen again.

- We also had some issues with comments not working. This seems to be mainly effecting the folks across the pond in the UK, and people who use the client. Jeff has posted some fixes to the problem over on Magic Smoke that are well worth checking out.Generally speaking, though, if you're having a problem with any site at all (not just an AOL site, I really mean any site) inside the client, try an external browser. You'd be surprised how often that fixes the problem.

I will have a "Web 2.0 Summit Wrapup" post up shortly, but I felt it was much more important to give you all a heads up about what's going on with the site than blabber about what I was doing last week. :)

    Hello,
I had the problems you speak of during the weekend and today. I followed your advice and tried using IE to access journals and post comments on them. It worked perfectly!
Thanks for all of your hard work!
    Have a great night,
    Gayla

Not just the UK, but here in the US too. Have had a dreadful 3 days! Either couldn't access them at all, or could...but couldn't leave comments, & on my on journal couldn't add or edit. All seemed ok this morning, then this afternoon was unable to access again for several hours. Recently seems there's something every few days.

I was fumbling around my parents' attic looking for my old Commodore 64, 2400 baud modem, and Q-link software when the journals went out.  Consider that a warning...  I will rock AOL all the way back to the Stone Age.  bwaahahaha!

    Stephanie,
Things went to pot here in the UK on Thursday (11/9), when I (among others) were forced to download additional peaces of software before we could connect to AOL. This happened TWICE since, and hope to be spared more of same, as I've also got to reboot computer after that. I know it's not strictly speaking a journals issue.
Generally, there are a lot of people out there that are VERY unhappy at the moment.
