When I was in junior high school, we were given an assignment to memorize a poem. I immediately knew that if I was going to remember something forever (yes, I was always as dramatic as I am now) it had to be Robert Frost. I loved “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening,” and wanted to find something else of his to memorize.
And so I fell upon “The Road Not Taken.” There are a few pieces of writing that I can point to as truly changing my life, or changing the way I view the world. This poem would be on the top of that small list. As I memorized the words, I took them to heart – deciding that I would never fall victim to “what if’s.” I wouldn’t follow the easier, more popular routes unless it made sense for me to do so, and I would blaze my own way.
I’ve had the potential for a “what if” moment three times now, where I was presented with a big decision that would take my life in a new direction. I could either stay where I was comfortable and happy, or move on to something new and unknown. As a result, I’ve moved across the continent twice, and I’m about to do it again.
As I mentioned on Monday, today is my last day here at AOL. I just can’t say no to the unknown – I need to know what’s out there. I’m happy here at AOL, I love the people I work with, I love all of you in J-Land, but if I didn’t take this opportunity and see what I could make of it, I’d be saying “what if” my entire life.
This blog (and this screenname) will cease to exist after today. I'm not going anywhere, though, I’ve been blabbing online in some form or another for longer than I care to remember, and I’m certainly not going to stop now.
As for blogs here on AOL - Joe isn't going anywhere, and will keep you up to date on all things R11b and beyond, as (I’m sure) will the other members of the team who blog. And (my one last chance to pitch!), you can keep up to date on the team’s blogs by using the team aggregator I made over at Yahoo! Pipes.
All the best to everyone, and keep blogging!!

Well. Looks like Joe is going somewhere since AOL has let him go as journals editor. Are they getting rid of journals next? arghhh.

YEAH, FOR SURE... NOTHIN'S WORSE THAN A CROWDED ROAD. PERSONALLY, I LIKE A NICE, MELLOW, SCENIC, COUNTRY ROAD ALONG THE WOODED HILLSIDE WHERE I CAN RELAX AND ENJOY MOTHER NATURE'S GENEROUS SMILE. http://www.cdbaby.com/all/add

ALSO MAKE SURE: TELL EVERYONE TO GOOGLE ADDAM BONGG... HE IS BY FAR THE MOST PERTINENT NEW ROCKSTAR TO APPEAR ON THE MUSIC SCENE... ADDAM BONGG DOES NOT DEAL CDs OR DVDs AND IS NOT A PETRO-PLASTIC INDUSTRY PUPPET LIKE HIS MAJOR LABEL PAYOLA FUELED CONTEMPORARIES... ADDAM BONGG DOES NOT GOUGE HIS AUDIENCE... ADDAM BONGG DOES NOT CONSUME BOOZE, PILLS, COCAINE, HEROIN OR DAIRY PRODUCTS... ADDAM BONGG'S NEW GENRE OF MUSIC THAT HE CALLS "DESKPOP" CAN ONLY BE FOUND ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB AT JUST ABOUT EVERY MUSIC SITE IN EXISTANCE... ADDAM BONGG DOESN'T FLY IN POLLUTION SPEWING JETPLANES NOR DOES HE RIDE IN GAS GUZZLING LIMOUSINES TO AND FROM HIS GIGS (HE'S TOO LAZY TO EVEN PLAY ANY GIGS)... ADDAM BONGG WILL RELEASE TEN ALBUMS THIS YEAR STRICTLY DOWNLOADABLE DIGITALLY AND TWICE AS MANY NEXT YEAR... BY THE END OF THE CENTURY, ADDAM BONGG WILL HAVE RELEASED ABOUT 100 ALBUMS WORLDWIDE... HE ALWAYS WEARS PROTECTIVE GLOVES WHEN HE HANDLES HIS LAPTOP BECAUSE, AS EVERYONE KNOWS, COMPUTERS CONTAIN CANCER CAUSING TOXIC MATERIALS... ADDAM BONGG DOES NOT ISSUE PICTURES OF HIMSELF BECAUSE HE LIKES THE FREEDOM OF BEING ABLE TO MOVE AROUND HIS HOMETOWN NYC WITHOUT BEING MOBBED BY FANS... ADDAM BONGG IS ONE OF THE MORE CREATIVE AND PROLIFIC ROCK/POP SONGWRITERS TO EVER GRACE THE LIVE EARTH... EVERYONE WILL LOVE THIS SWEET GUY http://www.cdbaby.com/all/add
