Just when you thought the Phoenix images couldn't get any better...!!

Yesterday we had the image showing Phoenix descending to the surface of Mars beneath its parachute. Today we have a wider angle version of the same image... and look what was hiding behind Phoenix...

That's Heimdall Crater, the 10km - 10km!! - wide crater on the side of Green Valley. Now, it looks like Phoenix is dropping down into the heart of the crater... scary!... but in fact Phoenix is way, waaaaaay in front of the crater. But still... that has to be one of the images of the Space Age. You can finda full size version here, but before you go look PLEASE have something under your jaw, cos it's going to dtrop like a stone...!

Now you've looked at that, look at this...

That's the backshell of Phoenix, with the parachute attached... ON THE SURFACE OF MARS! It's another HiRISE image of course, and if you look closely you can even se detail on the parachute...

But THE image so far has to be this one...

(my colourisation)

That's Phoenix, standing proudly on the surface of Mars. You can see its solar panels, and their shadows on the ground below. Unbelievable. Just... unbelievable...
