Feeling Hopeful

The 1912 visitor to the United States

When a gentleman from a land then called Persia came down the gangplank of his ship and walked onto the streets of New York City, he brought information about a new religion. It was a religion called the Baha'i Faith, and it called for peace and unity among the peoples of the world.

The Baha'i Faith had been introduced to Americans in 1892, at the Chicago World's Fair. The visitor from Persia simply offered Americans more information about the teachings of the Faith's founder. That Persian gentleman spoke before a number of different organizations. He spoke to Esperantists, women suffragists, members of the NAACP, members of the Theosophical Society and other like-minded groups.

The writer of this blog has written a short story, a work of historical fiction that takes place in 1912. The visitor from Persia is one of the main characters in that story. The other main characters, two young boys, have not lived, except in the author's imagination.
