Subject: The 'Fountain' of Love
Time: 9:00:00 AM EDT
Author:  summermovieblog

Hi there. I'm MoviefoneSandie, coming to you from Toronto. You may remember me from such films as 'Meet Joe Blow' and 'Mommy, What's Wrong With That Man's Face?'  No, I kid. That's Troy McClure ... I haven't been in any movies, but I do love 'em. One I can't wait to see is writer-director Darren Aronofsky's trippy, time-traveling tribute to true love, 'The Fountain,' starring his Oscar-winning fiancée/babymama Rachel Weisz and Hugh Jackman. Yesterday, Darren and Rachel, both nattily dressed in the sort of perfectly tailored clothes most of us only see in magazines, strolled into our Unscripted set at the Roots store with their beautiful three-month-old son Henry Chance (and a lovely woman I presume is his nanny) in tow. But hey, this isn't Celebrity Baby Blog, so I'll stick to the topic at hand -- their interview about 'The Fountain.'

Once the Unscripted started, Darren seemed surprised that the reader questions -- especially one about the movie's theme of death -- were so specific. He couldn't believe people knew so much about his movie. I guess he didn't realize what a cult following he's had since 'Requiem for a Dream' (don't know about you guys, but it's one of my Top 11 favorites).  Darren explained how the movie stems from his desire to visually depict the David Bowie song 'Space Oddity' (you know, "This is Ground Control to Major Tom …") and his interest in the figurative and once literal quest for the fountain of youth.

But the conversation wasn't all about heavy themes. For his wild-card question, Darren asked Rachel, "Who is the best director you've ever worked with?" and without a beat she replied: "You, of course." Later, when it was Rachel's turn toask a question, she wanted to know what his next project is, and even she seemed disappointed when he said he didn't want to talk about it right now, because he "wants to focus on 'The Fountain.'" Then he added: "I thought you were gonna ask who the best actress I've ever worked with is," to which she laughingly responded: "I don't want to know the answer!" Don't worry, Rachel, we're sure it's you … or maybe Jennifer Connelly. But you did have his baby, so we're going with you.

Do you have any sense of what the The Fountain is about? Space Oddity is a pretty trippy song, so it's hard to imagine a movie based on it (tho less hard considering who's directing it, I guess).
