Wow...I can't believe I haven't posted since last Friday.  Well...actually, I can...it's been one of those weeks.

Here's Arielle with the boys!

I've missed a couple of weeks of felines and furballs.  So glad to finally have the time to get back to it.

One of the fun things about puppies is how they try to interpret things in the world for the first time.  Today, Indie had his first sprinkler experience.  I don't know it he thought he wanted the sprinkles because they are water or because they were something moving.  Either way, he was funny.

We have been in San Diego the last four days.  I know I'm late posting for the current challenge, but it's for the fun catagory anyway so....

We're flying home tomorrow.  I'll be checking in on everyone's entries then.

I took this photo while we were hiking along a canyon near our hotel.  I loved this wonderful lone stand of eucalyptus trees.

For me....it's just for fun!

Black and white is a special challenge.  I don't know about the rest of the participants, but I spent a good deal of time settling on just which image I would submit.  I converted and played with three...but probably could have stayed with it all day.

I took this photo out the window of our moving car when we were in Montana this summer.  I wasn't that fussed with it in color, so it was never posted.  I like it better in greyscale however, it really did take some playing to get enough contrast in the details.  I'm thinking now that many of the Montana photos might be good greyscale candidates.

Oh....what the heck, here's another.  I was just closing down the editor and looking at it again, I thought....why not.

:)

Also Montana...on the other side of the highway.

Be sure to check out the other black & white landscape submissions here and here.

Ooops....Feline/Furball Friday on Tuesday.

Sorry, I'm late!

When we first got Indie, the kids were distressed to see this look on Berkeley's face.  He might look a bit fierce, but it's all in good fun.

Oh...the toy is every bit as gross as it looks.  So it's all the more coveted.

Subject: Watched Like a Hawk
Time: 9:18:22 AM EDT
Author:  sunflowerkat321

I was out photographing flowers in my yard :::big yawn:::, when Joel summoned me to "come see the hawk".  He and a couple other boys noticed a hawk up in the trees right off our cul-de-sac.

So...armed with the big lens, I spent the next hour hawk watching.  It was interesting.  He let me get pretty close and never spooked.  I kept hoping for some action, but got very little. I even tried to prompt some by tossing sticks out into the woods.  He lasted longer than I did... after an hour handholding a 400mm lens, my arms were dead and the light was waning.  I have a ridiculous number of frames....but here are a few that really capture the experience.

At one point, he did drop to the ground.  While this photo is not tack sharp, I like the surreal look that the action creates.

He was on the ground at this point.  I was able to get a completely different angle with him below eye level.

A momentary loss of dignity....

Subject: Can't Get Enough Spring...
Time: 10:00:00 AM EDT
Author:  sunflowerkat321

These are a few photos that I took early Monday morning before the house closing in Allentown.  They are from one of the wonderful parks in the area. This particular park is near the house we rented when we were first married.  My neighbor and I would walk our dogs down here almost daily and let them romp in the river.  I will always have fond memories of this place.

I have photographed and posted this willow tree in previous years.  I just love the shape of this particular tree.  Somehow, in spring, I always find myself back at this very same spot.

In the past, I have also tried to capture the riot of pink blossoms,  I decided I've always stood too far back and tried to get to much,  So this year, I went for a different approach.

Last but not least....the magnolias.  I LOVE these trees.  My mother has one in her yard that has been there ever since I was  little girl.  Every year, it would bloom so beautifully and every year, that signalled that we'd have one more overnight freeze.  It was inevitable.  Since I've moved east, it seems that the magnolias are just enough later that the blooms are spared.  It wasn't until I got hooked on macro that I discovered the fascinating inner beauty of the bloom.
