Subject: Every Picture Tells a Story #3

Monica has this wonderful little challenge going called Every Picture Tells a Story.  This week's topic...

I found this _______________ (seashell, ring, cobweb, flower, rare stamp)  Where and how did you find it? Do you often find "treasures"?

I thought about this for awhile trying to come up with something unique that I have found.  I settled on a particular book....one of many "treasures" to be found in my mother's home.

I know I've shared before that I grew up in the house that my great grandfather had built in 1901.  My grandfather was raised in the house and it became my parent's home when I was one year old.  My mother still lives there...and there is a century plus of stuff there.

One day, at least 25 years ago, I was up in the attic with Aaron and we were going through family ephemera.  I had never been under the eaves up there, but I crawled in through a little door.  There was no light, so I needed a flashlight to find my way around.  I found an old crate filled with books covered with an old newspaper that dissintegrated in my hands when I lifted it.  I ultimately adopted a number of these books.

This one was not the most interesting, but it was the most well preserved and perhaps the most valuable.  I found it in it's box, and it looked as if the book had never been opened.

It's in incredible condition, the spine has never been broken open.  It's difficult to page through the book because I don't want to force it open.  But, I was able to hold the pages open just enough to show how old it is and how beautiful it is inside.

I think what I like most about the book is the detailed illustrations.  Each illustrated page is on slightly heavier paper than the text pages.  And every illustrated page has a piece of tissue paper seperating from the facing page.

It's too bad that books aren't made like this any more.

By the way, is "poetical" a word?

    Kat,
this couldn't be any more perfect.    Your story is almost as good as the find.   And you captured it all with perfect photos to boot!     I can see why that's a treasure in many ways.
And yes, Poetical is most certainly a word for one who's entitled to using poetic justice!!

    Love you,
    Nance
