Feeling Quiet
Hearing Courtney Love:  America's Sweetheart

First entry....here we go!

Hell....what better way to start than to dive right into it?  I learned a lot of empathy for women today.....I had a mammogram!  I have had a painful lump in my right nipple for several weeks and finally went to the doctor who referred me to the UT Breast Clinic.  When I went to the receptionist, check in clerk, intake person or whatever the heck you call the person working the front desk and told her that I had an appointment....she looked at me increduously and asked "for what?!".  After I explained and filled out the obligatory paperwork, I was shuffled into the back door by a nice young woman who explained they didn't want to have me walk through the clinic with all of the other female patients.  (my thought was hell....if I am going to go through this mammogram thing....haven't I earned my way into some kind of sisterhood and the right to see a boob or two? ha ha).

I was relieved to find out the "smashing the boob between two cold metal plates" that I had always heard about was actually now carbon fiber and plastic.   It was a very awkward process but it didn't hurt as bad as I thought it would.  I did think several times that it was a good thing that testicular exams aren't done in the same manner or you would never catch a man within 5 miles of a doctor's office.  I was also hoping that mine was the hairiest chest that they had seen this week!

It was a very interesting experience to say the least!  Fortunately everything turned out ok as far as they could tell and the mass is just breast tissue.

Hopefully, I will be able to top this entry tomorrow but I don't know how I am going to do that right now......

Chris

Since you know me and have seen my expressions you can totally imagine one eye squinting with a sour look on my lips. Oh .. my .. gawd.

I have seen you shirtless (while working out, whooo highlight of the trip haha) and trying to imagine your "boobies" smashed just isn't happening. : - p

I'm glad you took the initiative and had this lump checked out and you are fine.  Always best to be proactive when it comes to health.  When I began getting mammograms ten years ago (at the age 30), I would practice by shutting my boob in the refrigerator door.  I'm told mammograms don't hurt if all one has is fatty, squishy (flabby?) boobs.  I'll just say that I'm always left breathless by the pain.

I've been checking out people's first entries lately and empathize with your having to go through the process and the unfair stereotypical treatment you received. On a side not, I imagine your nipple presses nicely...however, take a full-figured gal and press those carbon plates....very like your imaginings of pressing testicles between plates...I'm becoming verklept...must go now... :) Penny
