Feeling Happy
A Beautiful Collection
This morning was cool and many new flowers coming up had to be mulched late last evening. I found myself "caught up" and my pal Liberty and I did not quite know what to do with ourselves. A trip around the garden revealed little that was new. Finally around noon Lib and I decided to go to Wal-Mart and browse.
Liberty is always a story worth telling about. So often I take him to the store with me that he expects it when ever I go to the front porch. He often somehow knows when I am going to the store and begins jumping up and down and wagging his tail and always jumping up on me as I walk toward the door. We headed for town and his routine was ceremonially followed. He likes the rear car windows down as we head for the highway so he can put his head out the window for the breeze and a look around at all the neighbors yards and houses. As soon as we hit the highway and the car speeds up Liberty pulls back and comes up between the front seats and lays his head on my lap. I usually pet him as we drive. If I stop he nudges my arm strongly for affection. When we arrive in town, the car slows and he knows where we are and he then retreats to the back seat and waits until I lower the back windows so he can put his head out the window. It is always the same, trip after trip, day after day.
Finally we arrived at Wal-Mart and I gave him my usual instructions. "Lib, you watch the car. I'm going shopping and I'll be back in a little while." At home, when I cannot take him with me the message is the same, "Liberty you watch the house and I'll be back in a while." He understands and lays down on the front porch knowing he may not go along. At Wal-Mart I browsed. Heading out to the car I had to load five bags of Pine Mulch, a new Oriental Lily, seven white Azalea plants, one bag of potting soil and a packet of Orange Canna Lily bulbs. Believe it or not, I also had bought a new climbing Red Rose bush. I had no idea where I would put the Rose.
When we returned home I knew I had to plant the Canna bulbs to add still more balance to the Orange Garden. They had some catching up to do with the others now growing. The climbing Rose bush had to be planted with potting soil and liquid fertilizer. I placed it near the front porch because I always thought, "What a shame to have 12 rose plants in the garden far from the house. We now have two rose bushes (one climber) by the front porch. I will place (nail) mesh at the railing for the rose to ascend upon.
Finally, perhaps by habit more than anything I picked up my camera saying, "I need to document the improvements." Our pictures do exactly that, for posterity. They all go to a CD for my grand children to see in later years. The photos are very attractive.
It all goes to prove that Liberty and I were not "all caught up" in the least.

Oh Liberty is so handsome! I'll bet he charms everyone he meets with those eyes alone. : )

I always enjoy stories about Liberty. I think I like him a lot. : )
My favorite photo was in Pat's kitchen. I loved the roses in blue glass. How pretty, I thought. Then, I glanced over to the side and saw they are just as beautiful in plastic as well.......roses......always lovely.
I wonder if God put thorns on the stems to remind us that the road to heavenly beauty is paved with pain. Or maybe it's as simple as the fact that God wanted us to be gentle with the rose, therefore he put thorns on the stems, so we wouldn't get too rough with the lovely flower and harm it's delicacy. Yes, I like that theory much better. : )

What you say is surprisingly true! Liberty welcomes everyone that comes to the house with a tail wag and a good snif. He seems to like everyone. But if a strange car comes down the road he perks up and runs out the driveway, looking very concerned, to be sure they are OK..... He is most often waiting at the gate when either Patricia or I come home. When I am in the garden, he is not far away, chewing on a stick or playing with his toy doggie, often taking a nap. When I have a new project he always is curious and tags along to see what I am up to.
You are indeed a good judge of character.
