How about one Bobble Head and Four Mop Tops!

Oh what a photo op! Who said the Fab Four would not have a reunion? Who would believe that they would jam with the Prince of New Orleans and his magic licorice stick. I always knew Pete's years on Lawrence Welk's Champagne Music Hour would get him noticed by a younger generation. I get all bubbly, champagne bubbles of course, thinking that it actually happened and I got to enjoy the jam with all the boys.

John, thanks for the fun.

Check out the other Bobble Heads

The challenge is to photograph an image with contrasting colors. I think I may have flunked color per say . I do love the fact that pending the angle of light, even black and white will show color in the highlights.

Check out the color fun on By the Way.

Subject: 911

After the tragedy of 911 the people of Louisiana sent 2 fire fighting vehicles built in Louisiana to New York to replace those that were lost in the disaster. Every year we ring bells to commemorate the exact time that the planes hit the Twin Towers. The proceeds from the sale of the bells, sponsored by all our local fire-fighters, always goes to the the relief funds for the firemans' families. When the tide turned and we here in So E Louisiana needed help, the NYFD responded. They came and helped. Their help and compassion was immense and everyone here was and always will be grateful. This year the bells went on sale early in the last days of August and rang early on the 1st anniversary of Katrina. They rang for the victims of Katrina but they will ring again for 911.

I took this image as soon as the National Guard would allow- a few months after Katrina. This is the debris field from a good friend's home or what was left of a 3 story home that was reduced to rubble. I have found it difficult to review and post the images that I recorded after the storm. This one is not easier to post but I thought that it was symbolic as well as ironic. The composition is busy and the DOF is slightly off, my hands were not so steady as they should have been.

Here is my tribute to New York from the Gulf Coast. I cannot say anything better than this image. We remember!

Feels ages since I played a Round Robin, nostalgic in itself. Recently, life has been filled with all the stuff of by gone and some up coming events. My Mom will have the birth of her first great-grandchild in the next month. She will be 85 within this month! Could the baby come on her birthday?

I was going to post this entry for Veterans' Day but I think this works for Nostalgia. Here is a link on the boat that landed our men, built in New Orleans.  http://library.thinkquest.org/J0113143/index3.htm

Sorry if anyone gets a notice but I had to update the link to the Higgins Landing Craft. I put the wrong link in intially.

Please be sure to visit the other Round Robin entries for Nostalgia.

Subject: Round Robin/ Ye Ole Watering Hole

Maryanne has picked what is your favorite Watering Hole. New Orleans and its wonderful nooks and crannies of people and places comes to mind for me. To enjoy my fair city is to simply find an establishment, kick your feet up with refreshments and culinary delights of your choosing, and relax.

This past weekend we took one of our former foster children for an outing. We also patronized one of our regular old haunts since the 1960's. Famous for burgers and a baked potato or a steak if you are so inclined, Port of Call will satisfy anyone's sense of adventure. The concoctions of rum and fruit juices also keeps one returning for the fond memories. The Monsoon is my favorite. You can check out the joint here:

http://www.portofcallneworleans.com/index.html

One of the intriguing aspects of Port of Call is the sense that you could be in any port and in any part of the world. Done in early ship's galley decor, it is dark and woody. So dark you can be seen or not seen there ( Ps- too dark for most pictures without a flash and not wanting to illuminate anyone that did not want to be, I declined to use mine. My Cheeseburger in Paradise and Monsoon took most of my energy).

As a result of the dark and intimately crowded atmosphere, it is a haunt for celebrities and locals, very few tourists meander to the end of the French Quarter. The foster child stated, 'ya kinda think that Jack Sparrow might be here!'. Aye mate, keep your eyes open!

It is ironic that New Orleans was covered in water because it is an outstanding Ye Ole Watering Hole.

Your Monday Photo Shoot: With photo editing tools, take a picture of yours and turn it into a negative. The idea here is not to take just any picture, mind you, but one that you think will look particularly striking with its colors inverted.

I went for detail. I found it interesting to see the detail pop with the negative effect. I have included the shots both ways. Thanks John, that was different and fun.

I would hope this counts for Aquatic Life. Meet Tucker and when he comes Pete graciously gives up his pool.. Tucker doesn't have much of a life even though he has a good one. He enjoys his visits because we have a pool and mud puddles. Thank goodness we have a pool, it helps when Tucker enjoys the puddles. So this is my entry for the photo shoot. Check out the others!

Life has been slightly off as of late. I finally got Mom back here at the house and settled, then she made a decision to enter an assisted living home. She has regained her independence because the button is there to call the aid when she wants help. She resented me having to be home with her. Funny, I thought it might have been the other way around. Mom is happy and therefore, so are we!

I guess this topic brought about some introspective reflections. One of the first photographic journeys that I made was down the street to a quiet place on the Bayou. I had just aquired my Nikon D 70 and a 300mm zoom lens. I enjoyed the experience and learned a thing or two. Hope those that haven't seen these images before enjoy, those that have, may you  like the trip back to a place that has changed since Katrina. The trees no longer exist. http://journals.aol.com/tc01hm/FirstDigitalPhotos/entries/612

By the way, check out the other Reflections that inspire the other Round Robin entrants.

My girls love to get out into the people yard. Most evenings I let them out to graze for an hour or so. They come at full speed when I whistle. Nothing more beautiful and free than a horse in motion.

I get to be free, flying to the west coast today to see a friend. I'll have to catch up on the other entries when I get back. Check out the other Free entries!
