NASCAR now has a monopoly on the merchandise from each of the teams, which really worries me. Together with SMI, "ISC" has purchased not only Action, but Team Caliber as well. This is going to bring about huge changes in the way fans buy their hats, shirts, die-casts, etc. Soon to be gone are the merchandise trailers that travel from track-to-track every week. To me, that was always one of the best parts of the race weekend, going to the trailers and walking around between them, because there were so many and every major driver was represented in some fashion. Now with this Motorsports Authentics deal, these trailers will be gone. From what I've seen on the subject, there will be shops of some sort opening up at each track instead. This is great, if you happen to be a Jeff Gordon or Dale Jr. fan, but any other driver? Psshh. Good luck getting your hands on a Kurt Busch hat or Robby Gordon diecast or a Jeremy Mayfield shirt. This hurts all fans except those that like Gordo or Dale Jesus. The company will cut production on every other drivers' stuff so they can sell a Jeff Gordon boxer brief collection. Outside of Jimmie Johnson, who's gonna buy that? The one good thing I like about the deal is that it should bring more NASCAR merchandise into more retail stores. Hopefully, it will put them on par with the number of NFL jerseys and MLB hats that are sold in many stores. If done right, this could be a great deal, but how often does NASCAR do something that benefits the fans?

Fans? Who are they? You mean they have thoughts and feelings? Noooooo.

One thing known is MA plans to push heavily for kiosks in Wal-Mart and Target, similar to the cell phone one you see in most Wal-Marts. Any guesses which drivers will be featured? (Hint: probably not Ken Schrader and Mike Wallace.)
Hopefully MA will produce a full line of everything for everyone and make it conveniently available for all fans, but who knows.
