Carl does the Atlanta sweep to give himself another week as a Chase contender.
I was happy with the race, not too crazy, but had enough good racing to make it worth watching. This race looked like a 2004 race in some ways, with Jeff Gordon and Dale Jr. actually running at the front. It's good to see a guy run the high line all day and have it pay off. Surprisingly strong effort from Jamie McMurray today. He just got better and better as the race progressed. Need to get used to talking about him too, what is up with this 97 to 28 rumor? This week will be interesting. I heard that the reason Kurt Busch didn't co-host Wind Tunnel is because he was going to Michigan... hmm... Roush HQ is in Michigan. I say something goes down this week.
Smoke opens up the point lead a little more, up 43 on Johnson:
1. Stewart 6100
2. Johnson -43
3. Biffle -75
4. Edwards -107
Newman -107
6. Martin -143
7. Kenseth -155
8. Wallace -257
9. Busch -260
10. Mayfield -310
Top 5 have a chance, bottom 5 are eliminated. Biffle has to win at Texas to keep his chances alive, no other way around that. He will certainly give it his best effort, no doubt about that. But will it be enough....
- Very quietly, Brian Vickers has snuck up to 16th in the points. Busch is getting more hype, but Vickers pounds out top 15's every race when Busch will either get a top 5 or crash out trying. To me, Vickers seems to be the new Terry Labonte in terms of the consistent finishes. I had my doubts about him, but he will get better and better each year.
- Am I the only person wondering why Kasey Kahne is 22nd in points?
Off to Texas next week for the inaugural Dickies 500. This may be the best possible way to race a mile and a half track, daylight into dark. Make teams work for the W.
