If Frey said "Hey, this book is an autobio about my life, everything in it really happened". Than I would be a little annoyed that some of the stuff was not real. If you shell out money to read something and later find that it's not all truth, who wouldn't be a little upset. But than again, if it was ALL the truth, it might not be interesting enough to read.

I find it  "funny" that Jame's Frey was labeled as a liar.  Was he really a "liar"; or, was he just writing his "Subjective Truths" in his memoirs?
It seems he was publicly "judged" by way of "objective" truth.  However; he may have been totally "subjective" in his endeavors.  Any Thoughts?

I can see that Oprah, who spouts self help talk as if she practices it, does not practice forgiveness at all. What is the true harm that this book caused?  Personally, I never read any book because Oprahs name was associated with it.  She isn't even on my radar.  I read the book because a million tiny people, at least in Oprahs vision, recommended it to me.

God Bless James Frey and his recovery.  I'm sure he realizes that the many prayers of others for him that have walked his walk, are helping him maintain strong under the magnifying glass of the self professed most important woman of literary influence.

I applaud James Frey, his book, his parents, his fellows, and his journey.  He showed way more dignity on Oprahs couch than Tom Cruise did.

This is an incredibly powerful book . . . and of course details were altered to protect the identity of those in rehab, while others were cobbled together (most likely from the shared stories of other alcoholics/addicts). Who cares? It still gets it right in terms of the feelings, the yearning for "MORE" of everything, and the painful process back to becoming a functioning human. I wish Mr. Frey many years of recovery, whatever path he follows - his own, AA or the Tao - and hope that those who could be helped by reading this book will not be deterred by the adverse publicity.  Adele A., safetylawyer@aol.com.

i was infuriated by the smug unapologetic demanor of nan talese,,she didnt appear to take any responsibilty for publishing  mr frey s memoir. i think random house has a responsibilty to to some random fact checking about this memoir before it was published.not just reapm the profits.
