NewsFight! | Vieira vs. Couric

The "Who'd Win in a Fight?" game is a timeless time-waster. We like wasting time, but with a point. And so: NewsFight! We'll pick two candidates from a batch of daily newsmakers and pit them against one another and ask you, Feed readers, to answer: Who'd Win in a Fight? (Is that raising the level of discourse or what?) And so:

They won't be going head-to-head in their new roles, but that's all the more reason to get Ms. Vieira and Ms. Couric into the NewsFight! ring. Ding, ding.

I disagree that Katie Couric never tackled hard-hitting news stories or disasters.  I remember her doing intensive coverage on Hurricane Andrew's devastation of South Florida soon after she started on "Today," for instance -- and she won my vote when she cornered Pres. Bush I when he came on-camera during Katie's White House interview with wife Barbara.  I always admired that she didn't sound like an anchor airhead with pre-programmed questions, and seems truly interested in asking her interviewees bright, meaningful questions persistently.

Meredith Vieira actually reminds me of a young Barbara Walters, when Walters herself was on "Today" for many years in the late '60s and early '70s -- remember Barbara with her long red hair and those big wide "groovy" headbands she used to wear?  ;-)  Meredith has Barbara's poise and presence...to a point.  So far, I've also noticed her having this kind of pained look on her face when she talks into the camera, and her head kinda tilts sideways!  But she has a sensitivity that I think will really shine when the Holidays come, or a very poignant story comes along that will really give her a chance to make her mark.

But honestly: I was floored Anne Curry never got the job!  It just seemed a natural progression, and I thought her bubbly, warm personality would've been perfect.  It's funny...I never saw so much press coverage and attention about replacements, between "Today" and "The View," since Diana Ross left The Supremes!

    GP.

Katie is too Barbie/inexperienced for hard hitting news/has not covered wars/earthquakes/major disasters, etc. Will not last! Meredith too old! By old, I mean  experienced. More like Diana Sawyers. MV would fit into major news/not magazine new! Sorry Ann.  You deserved the job! Happy Meredith left "The View! "What a vulgar send-off for Meredith, but MV did get a send off. Katie got months, plus a 3-hours good-bye. Charlie G. got months of good-byes. Star got a BOOT! The person most responsible-the person Star thought was her best friend, Barbara Walters. At least, Joy showed her hand each day. Walters is a snake in the grass! Star should know the ways of the W-man! Forked-tongue. Star is a lawyer! Star made the mistake of thinking she was one of them. She is not a dancer, a comic, a reporter, a singer. To fit into that lifestyle, she altered her very being, while not hearing the snickers behind her back. When I first viewed "The View," I  thought surely Star would do more to educate viewers about LAWS of the USA. NO! Star even made a comment once that her family thought she was compromising her principles to fit that w-world. Telling all of her business on the TV. including getting engaged at a ball game. Gross! So good luck MV, KC, & BW. About "The  View?" Days are numbered!

Depends on who ABC's "Good Morning America" gets to replace Charles Gibson.  I am not a fan of Bill Weir, didn't like him in LA.  If he gets the job, I'll jump ship to "Today"
