The Onion's American Voices | Gospel of Judas

Every day, The Onion hits the streets and asks people to weigh-in on the most pressing issues facing the country. We'll be serving it up to you every day, so keep coming back.

Gospel Of Judas Found

A 1,700-year-old papyrus document called the Gospel of Judas indicates that the apostle Judas betrayed Jesus to the Romans at his request. What do you think?

"For 30 pieces of silver, a papyrus document can say whatever you want it to say."

Anita Lopez, Travel Agent

if a person is truly born again they will not be moved by every wind of docturing..nor will they take from or and to the words of the bilibe out of fear of a GOD that will not lie.   real relationship is all that will last till this world passes away.let the redemmed SAY SO ..AS A MINISTER I WISH I COULD CAUSE THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST TO BE PREACHED AND NOT BE PROSTITUTED SO THAT PEOPLE JUST DOMT BELIEVE THE TRUTH ANYMORE BUT LOOK TO MAKE IT A LIE .MAYBE ITS JUST MORE PROOF THE BIBLE IS THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH BECAUSE IT SAYS PEOPLE WOULD HAVE ITCHING EARS AND ITS HAPPENING JUST AS HE SAID AND HE ALSO SAID he that believes will be saved and he that doesnt will be damned....I BELIEVE

I have always contended the man Simon (Jesus) was our first recorded suicide.  This latest revelation of Judas confirms my contention.

The strangest thing about this 'gospel' is that it has been uncovered more than 300 years after the betrayal took place.  Does that sound suspicious to anyone but me?  Let's face it, even if Judas didn't go out and hang himself as the Bible says he did, there's no way he could have lived another 260 years to write this gospel.  One might then ask, "Is it possible that this isn't the original?"  Well, sure it is.  The reply to that is read the Christian Fathers (Irenaeus, Polycarp, etc.) because they would have surely mentioned this tid bit of information that would have revolutionized the way they lived out their faith.  Oh yeah, they did mention it...and called it a HERESY.  Further, the dating on this letter places it closer to 150 years after Judas' betrayal of the Messiah.  Hmm...that sounds fishy.

As you might have noticed, I'm fairly skeptical of this piece of literature.  Why?  Because we wouldn't consider a new article outlining the American Civil War if it were written today as being any more accurate than a journal of someone who actually fought in the war!  Reality:  People are so afraid that the Bible is true that they will believe anything to rid themselves of that possibility when (in my opinion) a little rational thinking and common sense might put this gospel where it belongs, the trash can.

    Questions?  IM me at smithjanic.

    Peace.

Trust Jesus, He died for you.
