The high gas prices do make politicians stupid.  Here in California's State Lands Commission passed a new regulation this April 2006 that says Power Plants cannot use Sea Water as a coolant for power plants next to the Sea: leaves the limited fresh water that is highly regulated and abused in the quid pro quo of city councils and businesses.  This is yet another Democrat style regulation to regulate Power Plants out of existence where California spent decades prohibiting new Power Plants, and the Democrats prohibited the efficient nuclear power plants, and while allowing rampant illegal immigration with a significant population growth with subsidies through welfare and social services for power where more people means more power (your taxes pay for political stupidity--if you were paid 66 cents for every dollar a person was paid you would be American).
