Breakin' News | Raw, Raw Deal

This just seems ridiculously wrong on so many levels. Misapplied law, overbroad language and a lack of a true remediation or appeal process. Check it out and offer an enlightened opinion in the comments section.

Genarlow Wilson, 20, is serving a prison sentence that shocked his jury, elicited charges of racism from critics of the justice system and even acknowledgment by prosecutors and the State Legislature that it is unjust.

He was sentenced to 10 years in prison without parole for having consensual oral sex with a 15-year-old girl at a New Year’s Eve party, an offense that constituted aggravated child molesting, even though Mr. Wilson was 17.

With Mr. Wilson — a football player, honor student and the first homecoming king at Douglas County High School — nearing two years in prison, the Georgia Supreme Court declined last Friday to hear his appeal.

First place these cases can work both ways. I know that raptist is out there ,but sometimes these young girls can put theirselves in a position for certain things to happen. It gives no one  right to rape. They put their pitcures, address, everything about theirselves on the internet. Knowing this is not good, because we live in a mean curel world. This is why partents should take more responibility with their kids. I know this don't have anything to do with this case, but in a sense it does. What i am trying to say that teenagers have no reason to be without guardians. If this 15 year old teenager was not force into having sex with her componet. This is not rape. When you are force into sex this is when it become rape. If this happen when Mr. Wilson was 17 years of age and his componet was 15 years of age either one of them were adults. Depending on what State you live in. What age you are consider as an adult. She should know if she was force into sex.  If she was not force into sex with Mr.Wilson, investigation should had taken place with both parties. God never sleep, He sees everything. he know exactly what happen that night. Keep your trust in God, He will fix it for this case.

You enjoy this a bit too much, are you a sadistic Georgia prison staff member or just an ordinary hyper-opinionated redneck who gets off on everyone else having it tougher than yourself???  Either way, you're definitely in need of serious psychiatric assistance???

Tell the truth.  Who among you weren't horny and looking to do something about it at 15?  How about 17?

I have to say, it is somewhat shocking to be almost 7 full years into the 21st century and still see people out there who act as if it's somehow deviant for a 17-year-old boy (or -- take a deep breath dads -- even a 15-year-old girl) to want to have sex.

I don't understand it.  Especially those calling the Young Woman a "child."  Come on.  If the girl was a child, then so was the boy at the time of the "crime" since neither was 18.  Besides, it's not even passably realistic to place a 15-year-old girl on the same level as, say, a 5-year-old here.

That's what makes the punishment so heinous, because the universally understood fact of the matter is that the girl really DID consent.  However, the jury was told to disregard her words solely because of the arbitrary age placed on the term's legal definition.  Had this same girl been testifying as to what she saw during a robbery, her age would not have disqualified her words.  I'm sorry, but to my mind, that's a problem.  Especially when a jury is being compelled to render a lifetime sentence.

What's deviant is wishing a lifetime of hardship upon this boy for being a human being doing what humans have been doing since the beginning.  What's deviant is using laws to be vicious for viciousness' sake, using them to unfairly punish a boy for the crime of reminding parents that even their power has limits when pitted against nature.
