If
you didn't visit us yesterday, here's our purpose in life: to
reverse the journalistic roles a bit. We want you to help us serve up
information that can be digested, discussed and debated. We're asking
you,
the readers, to send us links -- news stories, videos, photos and audio
that address the various topics in a meaningful way. We'll post your
suggested links
and read your comments, which, together will hopefully create an
interesting and informative dialogue, but also a valuable resource of
information on an important issue or event.
*There are a few rules: send links via email - don't post them in the comments section; keep your link suggestions and comments on topic; no personal attacks -- heated discussion is welcome, but make it personal or profane and the community will disinvite you. Enough rules, let's go with this today:

Today's topic is: Should the city of New Orleans be rebuilt? There are cases to be made for doing it and for not rebuilding? What do you think?
Here's are a few links from our news editors which should get things going:
- Poll: Most Say Abandon Flooded New Orleans
- New Improved New Orleans Will Be Rich & Much Whiter
- New Orleans' Restaurateurs Vow to Return
- An architecture critic surveys the damages
OK, start sending news links, photos, video to this email address: TheFeedBlog@aol.com
(Important: Use this email address for sending us links; use the 'Comments' area below to post thoughts. Thanks)
Links from Feed Readers
- Some helpful background info on the city (Thanks, Jamwhitenig)
- A reasonable article on why we shouldn't rebuild (Danke, MegganCB28)
- "This article was written months before the catastrophe happened, but describes it rather well. If it is rebuilt where it presently is, then all of this could be repeated yet again." (Gracias, CalvinDogs)
- This link directs you to the SPECIAL REPORT from THE TIMES-PICAYUNE, published in June, 2002 (Thanks, Elaadamcyzk)
- New Orleans isn't unique in its relationship to water (All right, Shadowsgrrrl)
- New Orleans should NOT be rebuilt in the flooded areas, because it is just a matter of time before another hurricane, as bad or worse than Katrina, will wipe it out again if it is rebuilt in the flooded area. It should be rebuilt on HIGHER GROUND (We are grateful, Glennsmom)
- "Commentary written by Peter Ferrara. I encourage all to read this article. Mr. Ferrara clearly, and with accuracy, outlines before, during, and afterward the series of events surrounding 'Katrina' on the local, state, and federal governmental levels." (OK, AMARACamelot)
- A photo slideshow of NO (Good stuff, Riley ter, thanks)
- An inside view from two paramedics who were there at a convention (Thanks, HanelleCulpepper)
- "I added a special report to my web site on the hurricane and its aftermath -- many links, photos, diagrams, and useful information from sources worldwide" (Excellent, MyMASTODON)

First arrest all the the crooks who are Louisiana's Political class. Second fix the levees. Third let the Mississippi river fix the delta erosion. Third. rebuild but don't concentrate all the poor folks in one place. Fourth am I the only who thinks it's odd that La. gets all this money off of Oil and Gas revenue and yet they seem to be broke. Where is the money ? Find it, arrest those who stole it. Then you will have enough money to fix the state. don

As hard as it would be to abandon, maybe a safer location should be considered for rebuilding. -
Although safety should be the main concern, those of us who are paying for rebuilding as taxpayers also need to consider the likelihood of the city being destroyed again by flooding, wasting away what we put into it.
