Subject: AOL Radio an Official Webby Honoree
Time: 2:55:00 PM EDT

It was announced this week that AOL Radio was selected as an Official Honoree for the 12th Annual Webby Awards.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Webbys, the awards are kind of like the "Oscars of the Internet" where the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences recognize excellence on the Internet. The Academy, by the way, includes people like David Bowie, Harvey Weinstein, Arianna Huffington and "Simpsons" creator Matt Groening.

This year there were nearly 10,000 entries from over 60 countries and all 50 states. Out of more than 10,000 entries submitted, fewer than 15% received this honor and were deemed Official Honorees.

Thank you guys for making it happen!

Until later,

~ T.C.

It' s all very nice, but obviously whoever gave those awards has no clue about multi-platform software.

I think the current AOL Radio sucks. And here's why: you guys had a GREAT on-line radio platform with Netscape Radio. The old one, the first one, circa yr 2000. It was based on RealAudio streams, and pure HTML. You could point ANY browser to it(I remember using IE, Netscape 4.6, etc) under ANY platform (I remember using Windows 98, and then Linux) and it worked.

Then things started going downhill when you guys switched to Radio@Aol and based it on a Active-X plug-in. You know, Active-X is Windows-only. Why restrict a great service only to Windows users?. It's silly.

Yet you apparently continue doing so.

In the latest beta, I had high hopes because I saw that it attempted to download and install an XPI (Firefox/Mozilla/SeaMonkey extension) to install the right "Plug-in", but then it failed miserably with some obscure error.

You can see people complaining about it here:

You obviously support Safari, so a cross-platform plug-in has been developed. So why not extend this to Ubuntu/Linux users as well?. Dell is selling machines preloaded with Ubuntu, you know!. And Acer is selling Linux preloaded laptops as well.

Congrats on the 2008 Webby Award.  I think AOL Radio is really great esp. the Classic Metal Station.  Well it was until I started having problems with it.  In the past, I never had problems with loading or even the streaming breaking up, but now within the last 2 weeks I cannot get through one song without the sound crappin in and out.  To all you people who are smarter than I am about this stuff...What is going on?  Is it AOL Radio programming or a crappy DSL connection?
