On September 29th of 2006, America lost one of her greatest sons. He was U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Micheal A. Monsoor. "Mikey" as he was known to his friends was a U.S. Navy Seal. He was 25 years young and always had a fun loving mischievous look on his face.
On September 29th 2006 he was on a mission in Ramadi, Iraq with his navy seal sniper team when they were cast into a moment of death. An insurgent tossed a hand grenade into their hideout. The grenade stuck Micheal in the chest and then bounced to the floor.
In an instant Micheal Monsoor and in an effort to protect his comrades from injury or death from it's blast, threw himself on top of the grenade tucking it with his hands tightly under his body, literally using his own body to shield his comrades from the grenade's deadly blast.
In his most selfless heroic actions, and at the cost of his own safety, Micheal Monsoor saved the lives of his fellow navy seals in the hideout with him. In his actions of extraordinary valor, Micheal Monsoor gave the last full measure, and paid the ultimate sacrifice for his fellow navy seals and for his country and countrymen. He died from his injuries soon after. Micheal Monsoor was a machine gunner with the Seal Team.
He was posthumously awarded the Silver Star, (the third highest award for combat valor) for another act of valor that he commited on May 9, 2006 when he pulled a wounded Navy Seal to safety during a firefight.
Now for his acts of valor in sacrificing his life to protect his fellow seals from the grenade's blast, Micheal Monsoor has been rightfully so awarded this nations highest medal for valor, The Congressional Medal Of Honor.
While Micheal Monsoor has slipped into the hands of God, he has also slipped into the pages of American history and set higher the standard and expressed the honorable tradition of selfless military service.
May God Bless This Gentle Warrior Now With The Peace He So Heroically Fought To Restore And Keep!
I Believe
I believe in many things, like the sun
even when it doesn't shine.
I know it's up there, lighting the way
for all of mankind.
I believe in love though it's fragile,
and often seldom shown.
I know it exists, because it I have
known.
I believe in peace, although it seems
so very far away.
I believe in war, because it's taking
place everyday.
I believe in God, even when I cannot
hear Him speak, I always feel Him
near.
Though war and death is all around
us now, I can even feel Him here.
I believe in the Olive branch and the
dove.
I believe in all of God's angels, from
the Heaven's above.
So though you will weep for me as
I am gone.
Remember that you raised me well, to
believe and to trust in God above,
remember the happy times and the
memories, that shall forever live on.
Yes I believe in God, even when I
cannot hear Him speak, so as I pass
from life from this wound, I do so
without fear.
Because with a teardrop in His eye,
God is kneeling beside me here.
