Ladies?
I know of ladies.
Conceptions?
I know.
Virgins?
Yes.

But this one,
this Mary they call Blessed--
sinless?

I sit near
a fireplace
where an elm log
glows,
arguing with friends,
or before my waiting typewriter,
arguing alone.

And outside,
and inside,
the immaculate conceptions
of snow.

And outside,
and inside,
the immaculate conceptions
of sun.
