Sitting in my parents' living room,
I am attracted to the voice of another:

Do you want to hear a good one?
Before the Second World War
the DuPonts built factories in Germany
which were used by the Nazis
to make bombs directed against our men
and profits for the DuPonts,
factories which were then bombed by our pilots,
an act because of which
the DuPonts sued the United States,
and so profited both ways.  Traitors.

Ill-used money.  Ill-wed power.  The death of men.

Watching my parents' television,
I turn to the voice of Golda Meir.

I can't see how the PLO
can be called a liberation movement.
It's not.
It's a terrorist movement.  * . . . .
How can you argue with people
who want you to die.

In the hands of the greedy the earth's living green
burns to brown:
gills and lungs collapse.
