Yikes, The wings take a blow as they lose their Rookie Phenom Niklaus Kronwall for 4-6 MONTHS!!

Holy crap this sux.

He looked so good in the preseason games, He would of made a huge impact on this team.  But hey he should be back in time for the playoffs. And a rested Defenseman could come in handy come playoff Time.

Other Bad news,  Stevie Y and Chris Osgood could miss the First 2 games versus the Blues as both are nursing Hamstring Injuries.

But on the Good Side of everything ONLY 4 MORE DAYS UNTIL OPENING NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!

Wings get a win and a loss all in the same evening.  They skated to a 5-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Lighting on the opening night of preseason hockey. But in the End they came out winners, when it was announced that Pavel Datsyuk will be a Red Wing again.  It has been reported that he has signed a 2 year deal worth 3.6 Million a year.

Datsyuk is in.

So a good start so far in the preseason. Datsyuk is a speedy player and it seems in the New NHL you need speed. So even in a loss the wings came out shining like a rose.. It would be nice to continue this trend for this season.

Tonight the Wings embard on their first preseason in 2 years.  A lot of questions surround this team.  Is Datsyuk out or in?  Will the lost of crafty veterans hurt this team? How will the defense respond to the new Rules? and Many many more.

But tonight being the first Preseason Game against the Defending Stanley Cup Champs brings hockey back home.  So regardless of outcome im just glad hockey is back.  Wednesday night is the first televised game and your damn  right i will be watching.

The one thing i think is really cool is that during all preseason games the two teams will play in shootout regardless of the score. So the players and the fans can get accustom to how the shootout works.  This is my favorite rule change, it just brings a huge exciting element to the game.  A lot of OT games were so boring (other than playoffs). So this should be more exciting. I know the Hockey Purist are pissing in thier Wheeties over this rule but oh boys get over it.

So the onset of the NEW NHL is tonight. THANK GOD AND ITS ABOUT TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Zetterberg is in.

Datsyuk is out.

Henriek Zetterberg finally signs with the wings. He gets 10 mil over 4 years.  About time Kenny Holland finally sealed a core player. However on that note it appears as though Pavel Datsyuk would rather freeze his keister off in Siberia than play for the Red Wings this season.  Not all the details are in but apparently whatever contract he signed over there, there is no OUT CLAUSE for him.  So it looks like Datsyuk is going to be out of the NHL for at least the next season.

Now we know who the greedy players are.

Coming 10.05

Just a quick rundown of the new rules in the NEW NHL.

Tie games are decided by a shootout

I kinda like this rule.  Teams still get a point and your fighting for the extra point.  Its going to exciting.

The two-line pass is legal.

This should speed up the game.  No more clutching and Grabbing. Should give some exciting breakaways.

Goaltender leg pads, blockers, catching gloves and jerseys are all cut down in size.

Its about time. Thats all i have to say about that.

Nets move two feet closer to the end boards

Makes for more ice room in front of the net and gives better shooting angles from the corners.

The “tag-up” offside rule is reinstated.

Never understood why they took it away to begin with.

There are a few more tickytacky rules but i figured these would have the most impact on play.  Its going to be a fun year. I cant wait.

Finally some really awesome news.  Chris Osgood signed a one year deal with the Wings.  I love this signing Osgood got run out of Detroit way to quickly in his first stint with the team.

No one is saying that he has the starting job, it sounds like its going to be a battle in the preseason between him and Manny Legace.  But if anyone knows the pressure of being the number one goalie in Detroit it is Chris Osgood.  He was booed quite a bit after allowing some tough LONG goals in his final season with Detroit.  Hopefully all is forgiven and the fans will reaccept him as a Wing goalie...... I know this fan will.

Wow it is amazing the rate of signings this week.  My head is just spinning trying to keep up with them.  The Neidermyers sign with Anaheim, Forsberg to Philly, Schnieder and Chelios resign with the Red Wings, and many many more.   This is fun to watch i just cant wait until Oct 5th when the league gets going again.

The only thing that bothers me is ESPN's outright hatred of the NHL they act like no-one cares about Hockey.  Like i give a crap if some high falutent in California doesn't care about hockey or some redneck farmer in the southern states doesn't even know what Ice is.  This is a northern sport, we love it, we live it...so i dont give a crap what the so called "national media" thinks.

Once again we will see Steve Yzerman in a Red Wing uniform.  Today he signed a one year deal.  More than likely this will be his last season as a Red Wing.  I would of hated to see him end his career after an eye injury, now he has a chance to go out in style. With the new style of play who knows this may turn Stevie Y into the premier scorer he was in the 80's.

But im glad for this signing, not quite ready to see Brendan Shanahan where the Captains C.
