Willa the Toon

Several weeks ago I was randomly doodling in my paper journal and I spontaneously came up with a little character that I really liked.  I tried to re-draw her better, but the original was my favorite.  I called her "Willa" and decided she was a 50-something midget woman who was mentally imbalanced.  And mean.

I used to want to start a comic strip -- but could never come up with a satisfactory character to star in it.  I tried many times.  After the internet came along I just gave up completely.  There are about eighty gajillion webcomics online, and most of them are done by really dedicated young cartoonists who feel a passion for it.  With apologies to Willa, I just don't have the drive or desire to put out even a weekly comic strip.  SIGH  Being middle-aged sucks.

So as not to end this entry on a bummer -- I thought maybe this could be a forum for people to leave links to their favorite web cartoonists.  One of my new favorites is "Savage Chickens".  Check it out  www.savagechickens.com/blog/

Willa looks just like a lady who works in a bakery I frequent, sounds like the same personality too.

In response to your statement, "Being middle aged sucks": I go back and forth on that one.  On the day I turned 30, I cried all day.  My twin sister thought I was nuts!  She told me that we were only one day older than we were the day before, and to stop being a baby.  I have to say I have never cried over another birthday again, because (maybe?) she was right.  But we will be 53 in June, and I feel more aches and pains every day.  I look in the mirror and wonder, "Who is that old woman looking back at me"?  But then again, it's better than the alternative.
