ramblin' man

DAD

My father recently had a doctor's appointment where they were going to give a final report on how well the radiation treatment worked on his prostate cancer.  It worked very well.  There's a some sort of number stystem they assign the amount of cancer and it went from 6.9 to 0.05 -- which is apparently really good.  His doctor was pleased.  Dad always reminds me that his doc expects him to be around for another ten to twelve years.  I think he does this so I can relax a little and not worry about having to lose another parent any time soon.  I apreciate any kind of comfort anyone can provide in that area.

Ultimately, though, he much prefers to talk about his cats.  He and I bond best when discussing pets.

WAR ZONE, BABIES

Flu season might have peaked, but you can still see the aftermath at my work.  People limp in and we all cough and share war stories of our battles with this particular strain.  Some people come in for a day and then have to miss a day.  And then are those that came down with secondary infections in their chests and ears and other parts.  It's been brutal.

And through all this, we've had two people welcome new babies into the world...and another one is due anytime.  I'd be so paranoid if I had a newborn during this germy time that I'd probably seal the kid in a plastic bubble until June.

ANOTHER STUPID HOLIDAY

I'm taking a vacation day on Monday because it's freakin' St. Patrick's Day. Ugh!!  I don't want to even leave the house on a day when people start drinking at dawn.  My office is near the parade route and I'm a nervous driver anyway.  If you can stay home that day, please do!

Today at school, things looked green and the younger students discovered that a leprechaun had come into their classrooms while they were outside, and he had messed up their room. They act scared and delighted when this happens. My classroom is near the kindergarten and first grades, so I heard lots of squealing and a few screams, but mostly it sounded like they were having great fun. My dad was having health problems, and he never tried to hide the fact that he was not going to be around much longer... he had a more pessimistic look at his life, and did not believe he could live longer than his own dad had. I think when a parent is content with their lives, they are likely to live longer. Has your dad met any of your friends? Does he know that you have a relatively good life, and that you have people to take care of you, that you won't be left alone? My son is an only child, and my greatest fear is to leave him alone in this world. I want to know he has friends, you know, family substitutes. Sometimes friends can be better than family. I hope your dad continues to get well. That last report was a great one!! Have a good week. bea

All I'm doing is going to the grocery store on St. Pat's day ~ then I'm heading directly back home.  You know how I feel about people that drink too much (sigh) hate it.  I love the doodle hon...Love ya, Hugz, Teresa
