the old man and the sea (of cats)

I really wish this photograph was in focus -- it was taken by Mom, and she wasn't always real good with cameras. I'd guess it was taken in the late 1980's/early 90's. It's of my dad and one of the many farm cats he took a special liking to for whatever reason. Sometime after I moved away from home he developed a real affection for felines, and it's only gotten more pronounced over the years.
We talk on the phone every week and the conversation always gets around to his cats. He overfeeds them and then complains about how fat they are. He reasons that if he keeps their tummies full they won't go out hunting and get killed by coyotes or bobcats. I once tried telling him that hunting is fun for cats even if they're not hungry, but he ignored me. He brings the alpha cat -Paco- inside the house to feed him cheese .... and then complains about ol' Paco always trying to sneak in the door when he opens it. Logic doesn't work with my pa. At least when it comes to his pets. He loves cats and he also kinda likes to complain...I inherited both of those traits.
Lump and I are planning to visit him next month. I'm going to take many, many pictures.

Sometimes, I actually like slightly blurred pictures; they're like memories, not entirely clear, slightly out of focus. And the message is still just as good.
"Dads complain, Moms endure." That's not a real quote, just something I thought up (and it's not entirely true. Believe me.), but I just wanted to make it look more--official? Or should I say, officious?
But it's a great pic, and a great story. -
I was wondering if you spoke with your Dad very often. I'm sure he'll be happy to see you! ~ Bethe

Yeah, dad rules the roost. :-) As much as any of the fuzz balls will let us.
