Huge upset: Germany wins pairs figure skating gold!

Oops, false alarm. Never mind!

NBCOlympics.com seems to be encountering some glitches with their email alerts system, which automatically notifies fans of competition results.

A Road to Torino blog reader passed along this email alert she received today announcing
one of the more unlikely scenarios I could imagine -- that Germany won gold in pairs figure skating. Here it is:

Germany (GER) won the Gold in Pairs in Figure Skating.

I'm as eager as the next person to let the Games begin, but NBC better cut down on the caffeine consumption over there.  Way to give figure skating fans a heart attack!

I think this stems from a test they ran last night.  Whilst on the site last night, I noticed that they were providing "live results" for certain events and were creating a new medal count to reflect those results (many of which, like that of the a German pair winning gold, were bizarre); soon thereafter, the "live results" and medal count disappeared.

hey psychoj - It could be that they filter out non-U.S. IP addresses. Due to rights fees paid to the IOC, they may be required to do that. Similarly some European broadcasters' web sites show live video of Olympic events online, but if you don't have a European IP address, it blocks you from seeing it.

That said, I have also tried to sign up for alerts from NBC and it hasn't worked for me as far as I can tell!

The NBCOlympics.com e-mail system works? I have been trying for months to sign up for their news alerts, and I always get an "access denied" page. Is it because I live in Canada?
