1) Eight cross-country skiers, including Americans Kikkan Randall and Leif Zimmerman,
have been suspended for five days after testing positive for elevated
levels of hemoglobin. The suspension would prevent them from competing
in the first cross-country events on Sunday. [update] Four more skiers were suspended on Friday.
I reckon the only reason they haven't been expelled altogether is that tests were carried out by the International Ski Federation rather than as part of the IOC's official testing program.
2) This is more of a mini-scandal. A scandlet, if you will: Figure skater Johnny Weir raised eyebrows today when he was photographed at practice wearing an old-school Soviet team jacket. Weir is a known Russophile, but is it really appropriate to wear part of another country's uniform at the Olympics? Even if that country wound up on the dustheap of history?
*ponders*
Not really, but it's Johnny. He can get away with it.
