The Chinese pair of Zhang Hao and Zhang Dan,
skating in their long program: Opening their program with a
throw-quadruple salchow, Zhang Dan fell hard and skidded butt-first
into the pads. It was such a spectacular crash that for a second there,
I thought I was watching short track.
She landed on her knee and the wounds were visible on TV. It seemed sure their Olympics would be over as she was doubled over in pain, sobbing - but Zhang Dan soon signaled she wanted to keep skating and finish her routine.
That grit and determination alone would have made their story one of the great tales of these Olympic Games -- but they went on to skate a very solid program. So solid that they ended up with the silver medal! Just incredible. Bravo to Zhang and Zhang!
Check out Michael Weiss's blog for his expert take on the pairs' final!
[side note - Figure skaters share the same ice with the short trackers in Torino and can thank short track safety standards that require soft padding around the ice for making that fall less dangerous than it might have been.]

I think Shen and Zhao got cheated. Nobody can fall and wobble and get a silver medal. If Shen and Zhao or Pang and Tong had different coaches from Zhang and Zhang I'm sure a protest would have been filed.
