Seth Wescott brings home boardercross gold!

Big bright news for Team USA today: U.S. snowboardcross star Seth Wescott has taken gold in men's SBX final. Snowboardcross made its Olympic debut with these Olympics and Wescott was a favorite to win Olympic gold.

It was a close, exciting race, says the USOC: "
Westcott trailed Radoslav Zidek of Slovakia through the upper half of the course, then found an inside line to shoot past Zidek and into the lead. Zidek trailed by three yards coming off the final jump, but made a late surge and narrowed the margin to less than a board-length."

American Lindsey Jacobellis - she of the goldilocks in that popular VISA Check Card commercial - is even more heavily favored to take home gold in the women's event on Friday.

Wescott's gold today is the 6th gold medal and 9th medal of any color for Americans in Torino. Thank god for snowboarding! Without it we'd have just 3 gold medals and only 4 medals overall. Not that I'm counting or anything.

I cannot wait to see this event, described as 'short track on snow' tonight on TV!

Note that we have -- and will have -- the most golds. As long as France doesn't top us I'm happy. And, the interviews with the USA metal winners have been great -- we are in good hands with the young generation.
