Near midnight - a couple of hours after the men's short track
1000-meter event had ended - a forlorn Internet reporter and a couple
fellow travelers loiter on the dark sidewalk in front of the Palavela,
hoping a cab might happen by.
Two shadowy figures in team jackets come scurrying past, with backpacks on their backs and gear in their arms. They cross the street... also aimlessly waiting for some sort of ride back to their own lodgings.
No one seems to see or notice that the two anonymous athletes are in fact the night's gold and silver medalists, the new Korean heroes, short track skaters Hyun-soo Ahn and Ho-suk Lee.
Where's the limo, champagne and babes? Where's the glory? Where's Bob Costas when you need him?
Short track 1000m flower ceremony for bronze medalist Apolo Anton Ohno of the United States, gold medalist Hyun-soo Ahn of South Korea and silver medalist Ho-suk Lee of South Korea.
