Military enlistment at age 42?  I'd join again 50!

To: Caffertyfile@cnn.com

Dear Mr. Cafferty,

I have always enjoyed your editorial comments.  I am writing to answer your television poll regarding upping the enlistment age to 42 years old.

I am a Vietnam-era veteran. I joined the Army at the age of 17 during the height of the Vietnam War.  If they were to increase the enlistment age to 50 years old, I would re-enlist today and ask for service in Iraq.

I enjoyed the freedoms of any American kid.  I enjoyed the right to say the Pledge of Allegiance in school daily.  Thanksgiving, Easter and the Fourth of July were my favorite holidays.  Oppression, anarchy and tyranny never played a role in determining how I worshiped my God.

Freedom is always rendered in human blood, sacrifice and duty.

A surprising number of Americans have forgotten the price that we paid for our free and democratic society. The Iraqis are now paying for theirs.

I love my president, my country and what it means to be an American citizen.

Christopher Montgomery; proud to be an American!
