WHORESON by Donald Goines

"Goines takes the reader into the violent world of ghetto prostitution. Whoreson Jones, the novel's hero, is the son of a beautiful black prosititute and an unknown white john. By the age of sixteen, he is a fully- fledged pimp, cold blooded, ruthless. Written in gritty street talk, Whoreson's story affords a startling glimpse into the hell of the inner city, yet brisrles with bitter humor and defiant pride." ~~~www.amazon.com

MY THOUGHTS: I read this book and could not put it down. I could not believe how real this book was. I have heard of Donald Goines and I have to agree with the critics he is one of the best authors of all time. I was thrilled with this book that I went right out and got another another one of his books. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND...

TIES THAT BIND by Brenda Jackson

It all started in college, in the turbulent sixties, when Randolph and Jenna became lovers. Randolph knew the moment he saw Jenna Haywood that he had to make her his. But the path to love is not an easy one. His wealthy Grandmother Julia disapproves of the match and unbeknowst to him, his brother's seemingly docile fiancee has a few plans of her own that she would like to set in motion. Betrayal and devastation lurks in unexpected places and tests the bond they believed was unbreakable. As they struggle with love and passion, secrets and lies the question is: Is love enough to help them see each other through the storms that await them ahead? ~~~~www.readinggroupguides.com

MY THOUGHTS: The author did a great job of writing this book. It is the perfect book to read poolside or laying on the beach. This book follows the characters all the way through life. It is amazing how well thought out and captivating this book was. This is a must have for the summer.

REVIEWS

Way To Go Kisha on Your Debut!
N. Stewart "N.J. Stewart (4Sistas Only MD Book Club" (Baltimore, MD)This story takes you into the lives of Simone, Jordan and Taylor who are all dealing with either the demons of their past, abandonment and just "life" in general. For this to be your debut novel, Kisha keep up the good work and I'm waiting for "Dot Com Diva" to drop.

Excellent Debut!!!Shannon N. Davis- Author of Nothing Like Friends & Monogamous Intentions
Kisha Green did a FANTASTIC job on her debut novel! Her characters were intrguing and relatable! You could identify with them or know someone like them. The ending came with a twist and you never saw it coming. I truly recommend this novel for anyone to read. Books clubs will have a good conversation piece. Great Job, Kisha!

Off the chains!!!! Aarika Shoemate (Neptune,NJ)
This book was the bomb!!! I loved the way the  author Kisha Green wove the story of three friends together but as well as showing us that  true friends can endure obstacles. I  could not put this book down and cant wait to read Kisha Green's next book.

Marvelous!
Radiah Hubbert "Urban-Reviews.com" (Milwaukee, WI) And Even If I Did is a marvelous debut novel by Kisha Green. Green created wonderfully real and gritty characters that readers will be able to identify with. I loved how each of these women had their own diverse real-life issues. Simone's drama with her mother, Taylor's ex coming back into the picture, and Jordan running away from her past made this a widely entertaining novel. I also liked how this author intermingled the Five Percenters into the story without disrupting the flow of the novel. And Even If I Did is an enthralling tale that will hopefully be a wonderful start to Kisha Green's career.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

WHOA, WHO SAW THAT COMING?!?!?, WHOA! If you enjoy a good book with several storylines that are intertwined together then "AND EVEN IF I DID" is an excellent book to pick up. Each character brings a true quality to the overall story that all ladies can relate to whether personally or from past friendships. The mutual friendship that the three characters of Simone, Taylor and Jordan shared was evident throughout the entire book until true feelings emerged and deception replaced loyalty. Once you read the book, you will definitely walk away asking " ...and even if I did; could I?"

Black Gold

I just wanted to leave a quick little something about the book I just finished reading.

Black Gold by Anita Richmond Bunkley

"YA-This intriguing story is set in Mexia, Texas, on the oil-rich Balcone's fault during the 1920s. Leela Wilder, a beautiful, intelligent orphan, comes to live with her aunt and cousins. She grows up and marries in the midst of an oil fever that creates turmoil in the African American community that she loves. Her husband works himself to death, leaving her to unscramble a twisted family tale, raise a child, save the farm they built, and begin a new life. A fast-paced, romantic novel that is a welcome addition for YA collections.
Linda Vretos, West Springfield High School, Springfield, VA" ~~~www.amazon.com

I particulary enjoyed this book. I began reading it and from the start I couldn't put it down. What's more amazing is that it is a true story. This is a definite must read.

Let me know what you are reading.

All I Ever Did Was Love A Man by Sharon Denise Allison-Ottey

BOOK DESCRIPTION (www.amazon.com) ~ No one said being a single mother was easy, but, after some difficult years, Sabrena Collins seemed to finally have it together.  She had a good-paying job, two beautiful daughters who were growing up with love and security, and a wonderful friend who was more like the sister she never had.  She even had a man in her life who was everything her ex-husband was not: kind, generous and caring.

Everything seemed perfect—except for one thing. Steve said he loved her, but he was unreliable. There was more than one night when Sabrena would lie in bed, waiting for the phone to ring…alone and crying silent tears.

But when Sabrena was in his arms and he looked at her with his melt-on-the-spot chocolate brown eyes, all the problems, the sleepless nights, the cold dinners, all of that was forgotten.

And then, suddenly, Sabrena’s world was turned upside down by a simple visit that led her on a frightening and unfamiliar path, that led her to a truth passion and words of love could not erase, a truth that would change her life forever. A truth that would test her faith, her courage, her strength, and above all else, her love…

Book Club Memeber Bookaholic or Viva La Diva (as she is called on amazon.com) wrote the following review "I Heard So Much About This Book, I Throught Id Check It Out. Boy What A Story! It Touches Me Personally, Because I Have A Few Close Friends That Are Living With This Disease. A Story Worth Reading! From The First page to the last."

The Dirty Girls Social Club by Alisa Valdes-Rodriquez

BOOK DESCRIPTION (www.amazon.com) ~ The Dirty Girls Social Club closely resembles Terry McMillan's Waiting to Exhale: a handful of young women seek real love and job satisfaction. Unlike McMillan, Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez has completely thrown out any literary pretensions whatsoever, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Dirty Girls is a fun, easy, ultimately charming read, not least because the girls themselves are so appealing. Six Latina women become fast friends at Boston University and thereafter meet as a group every few months. Now in their late twenties, they're each on the cusp of the life they want. The novel is narrated in turn by each woman. Feisty Lauren has a column at the Boston Globe, but can't help falling for losers; ghetto-elegant Usnavys is trying to find a man to match her own earning power and expensive tastes; uptight Rebecca is a successful magazine publisher and an unsuccessful wife; beautiful TV anchor Elizabeth has a secret; Sara leads a Martha-Stewart-perfect life as a homemaker; and Amber is a hopeful rock musician in L.A.

The novel works because Valdes-Rodriguez has compassion for her characters; each is faulted, but none is culpable. She also has an eye for the telling detail, as when Rebecca tries to befriend her white husband's stuffy family: "His sister took step classes with me and we shopped for clothes together on Newbury Street and went to the Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum one afternoon with Au Bon Pain sandwiches in our handbags." Something about those sandwiches makes the whole enterprise seem more poignant. On the down side, Valdes-Rodriguez is so eager to make things work out for her ladies, her writing sometimes beggars belief. Men actually say things like "Swear to me you're happily married, and I'll stop pursuing you." Yes, Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez is, in fact, the Latina Terry McMillan. That is, if McMillan were a slighty guiltier pleasure. --Claire Dederer --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

National Geographic Greatest Places

BOOK DESCRIPTION (www.amazon.com) ~ Spanning the world, from Northeast Europe to Southeast Asia, these 260 photos offer a spectacular view of regions of unimaginable, often haunting beauty. Many of the images, from the National Geographic Society's 10 million-image archive, have never been published before. Meditative introductions to each region of the world consider questions such as our stereotypical views of Asia and the ambiguity of evocations of the Middle East, their meaning "depending largely on what one believes." But the real attraction is the full-color photos: sometimes mysterious, like Karen Kasmaski's photos of sunflowers with Mount Fuji emerging from the shadows in the background; or playful, like Miguel Luis Fairbanks's woman driving in Australia with a young koala bear on her shoulder. Some are charming, like Steve McCurry's image of women in a field in Yemen, their hats bobbing above the lush clover; and still others present the natural world in an original light, like Anup and Manoj Sha's photo of a herd of zebras in Kenya, op-arty with its zigzags of black and white stripes. Not all the photos evoke pleasant images: the ravages of war in Croatia and the 2003 invasion of Iraq crop up, adding a dose of unhappy realities. Still, dipping anywhere into this volume offers a feast for the eyes and introduction to parts of the world most are unlikely ever to visit.

BOOK CLUB MEMBER
Mtrib2* said his National Geographic reading:  "National Geographic... have been keeping me reading constantly."

Digital Fortress by Dan Brown

BOOK DESCRIPTION (www.amazon.com) ~  In most thrillers, "hardware" consists of big guns, airplanes, military vehicles, and weapons that make things explode. Dan Brown has written a thriller for those of us who like our hardware with disc drives and who rate our heroes by big brainpower rather than big firepower. It's an Internet user's spy novel where the good guys and bad guys struggle over secrets somewhat more intellectual than just where the secret formula is hidden--they have to gain understanding of what the secret formula actually is.

In this case, the secret formula is a new means of encryption, capable of changing the balance of international power. Part of the fun is that the book takes the reader along into an understanding of encryption technologies. You'll find yourself better understanding the political battles over such real-life technologies as the Clipper Chip and PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) software even though the book looks at the issues through the eyes of fiction.

Although there's enough globehopping in this book for James Bond, the real battleground is cyberspace, because that's where the "bomb" (or rather, the new encryption algorithm) will explode. Yes, there are a few flaws in the plot if you look too closely, but the cleverness and the sheer fun of it all more than make up for them. There are enough twists and turns to keep you guessing and a lot of high, gee-whiz-level information about encryption, code breaking, and the role they play in international politics. Set aside the whole afternoon and evening for it and have finger food on hand for supper--you may want to read this one straight through.
--This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

BOOK CLUB MEMBER
Sazzylilsmartazz* spoke on this and other books by Dan Brown: "Digital Fortress, Angels & Demons, and Deception Point and his acclaimed novel—The Da Vinci Code. Terrific books. I've read them all and loved them."

90 Minutes In Heaven by Don Piper

BOOK DESCRIPTION (www.amazon.com) ~ As he is driving home from a minister's conference, Baptist minister Don Piper collides with a semi-truck that crosses into his lane. He is pronounced dead at the scene. For the next 90 minutes, Piper experiences heaven where he is greeted by those who had influenced him spiritually. He hears beautiful music and feels true peace.

Back on earth, a passing minister who had also been at the conference is led to pray for Don even though he knows the man is dead. Piper miraculously comes back to life and the bliss of heaven is replaced by a long and painful recovery.

BOOK CLUB MEMEBER Onestrangecat* wrote: "The last book I read was 90 Minutes in Heaven by Don Piper.  It is a true story and a very good read."
