I love this picture; his face is awesome! I don't think he looks like me or his father. I always say he looks like some great-great grandparent that no one has ever seen :) I've not written enough about my son in my journal. His picture appeared in my very first journal entry. Other than that I've just referred to him here and there as 'my son.' I need to correct that. His name is Ikenna. In his father's native language, his name is composed of two words: 'Ike' which means strength and 'nna' which means father (Heavenly Father or earthly father). So his name translates as father's strength, or the power of the Lord.

When I was pregnant, I wanted my ex to choose our son's name. I wanted him to have names from both sides of his heritage. Ikenna is one of the true African-Americans I know :) Although I wanted Levi to choose the name, I told him I had 'editorial rights.' He'd be growing up in America, so I didn't want his name to be too difficult to pronounce or spell. Phonetically it is: eee KAY nah. His middle name is James; chosen because Jesus had a brother named James and one of my brothers' has James for a middle name.
Ikenna is a wonderful kid; he's very loving! Today was report card day. He has been an A/B honor roll student from day 1. The boy has never had a C! He's spending the weekend with one of his classmates... he LOVES sleepovers. I'm enjoying having a little tranquility and quality time to myself. Tonight I'm with my journal. Tomorrow I'm going out on the town with friends! I promise to share more of Ikenna in future journal entries. You guys must think I'm a horrible mommie...not giving my son his props.

Thanks everyone for your wonderful comments. Please pray for me. Ikenna's father was in a horrible car accident 8 years ago and suffered a brain injury. He's back in Nigeria now and doesn't remember much about his life before the accident. My prayer is that I can raise Ikenna well enough that he won't feel incomplete by the absence of a father (an earthly father) in his life.
