It really is the little things that count. Someone in J-Land did something for me that really touched my heart. In my last entry I lamented about not wanting to fish through the three+ years of my journal archives to find where I'd done an entry about my favorite picture of my son. What a wonderful surprise it was when I got an email from Jeannette (JLocorriere05) that she had located that entry for me! I couldn't thank her enough. That my friends is what you call a random act of kindness! You're a sweetheart Jeannette! Click here if you want to see that picture of my handsome child (it was taken when he was 10).
Last week was fall break for our school district. Ikenna still had football practice though. However the coaches rewarded everyone on his team who came out for all three days of vacation practice by letting them play in the game for the next level team this past Thursday. Ikenna was so excited to have a chance to play on the B team (he's on the C team). He got in for three plays, but he didn't score that touchdown he's been dreaming of
.
I took Wed - Fri off. My first order of business was our passports. Unfortunately I am an expert procrastinator. I should have started the process last month when I made the commitment to go to Nigeria. We went to our county district clerk office. So I ended up using the expedite service to be sure to get the passports back in time to send them for our visas. Our trip is just 2 months and 2 days away! Both of our passports had expired. Ikenna is at the age where his passport is only good for 5 years. He was only 9 months old when he got his previous passport. We haven't been out of the country since 1993. So we paid premium fees for obtaining the passports and the ability to get them back in 2 weeks time. We were able to do everything at the county district clerk's office. The cost of my procra$tination came to the tune of $319.00. I pray I've learned my lesson and that I'll never let them expire again.
I complained in a previous entry (on 10/5) about the sloppy packaging job I thought Home Depot did on a chair I ordered from them online. I sent them a complaint through their web site. They replied thanking me for the information and that they would use it in the future. I thought they were just brushing me off. But when the 4th and final chair arrived today, I realized they did make major improvements on the packaging. .
I wasn't able to be home when it was delivered. Imagine my surprise when I turned onto my street today and saw that whopper of a box in front of my door. That box was wider than my doorway! And I couldn't believe the shipper left the wooden pallet. My next door neighbor helped me open the box, remove the zillions of sheets of those big plastic pillows and get the chair in the house! The chairs are beautiful. Now I'm searching for the perfect table. I want something simple but elegant. And of course I want a great bargain. Waiting to buy the chairs paid off...I got them for almost half off!
Ikenna had a good vacation. He went to the State Fair with two of his friends. He played a lot of football with his friends, went to a birthday party, a sleep over and he went to the varsity football game. The rest of my vacation was spent getting some window treatments up at four windows. After I get the next four done, I'll post some pictures. I spent a fair amount of time being lazy and catching up on things I'd recorded with my DVR. Last night Ikenna and I went out to dinner at our favorite Italian restaurant (we shared an order of fried Calamari and a bowl of lobster bisque...he had muscles Marinara and I had eggplant Parmesan) and we saw the animated movie "Open Season." It was a cute movie...not great, but cute.
