Details of the new version of the Web Suite

Hi,

I mentioned here before that I'll share with you some of the new features that are coming in the next Cayman release of the Web Suite.  Cayman is the code name for the new, upcoming webmail service, that will eventually replace the one you've been using.  Below are some of the features I've seen.  Many of them are the ones you've been asking for, plus others:

  • A cleaner, sleeker design
  • Much more usable space, so there are more messages visible in the Inbox (scrollable list instead of pages).
  • No more pop-up windows (user-option).  Hooray!  The new feature is called "in-line read/compose" and you can choose your default setting.  If you occasionally want a pop-up window, you can still have that on an individual-email basis.  That'll come in handy for reviewing a sender's email while composing your own.
  • You can get to your Inbox faster and right to your emails because there’s no longer a separate Today tab.
  • The "Panels" have been moved from the left to the right side of the screen and there are some new panels coming.
  • The Addresses and Calendar "tabs" at the top of the screen have been moved to the left for easier navigation.
  • Selecting multiple messages and dragging them all to a folder is now possible.
  • Shift- or Ctrl-clicking checkboxes in the list of emails now works.
  • Re-sizable column widths.
  • Adding/editing folders is muchfaster.
  • If your mail message has the word "attach" in the body and you don't actually have an attachment, we prompt you before sending.  That's going to come in very handy for some of us!
  • There's much more.

Also coming in the future will be a Lite version of Web Suite for users on older computers/browser, or slower internet connection speeds.  This would also help those who aren't interested in all the full features, but just want speed, speed, and more speed.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to, but I'll see if I can get some of you an invitation-only sneak-preview into the next version of Cayman Beta, before the rest of the world sees it.  But I'll need to see how many of you would like to have that capability.  If you're interested, send me an email to websuiteblog at aol dot com (reformat address before sending).  No promises, but I'll look into it further and notify those who send me a request.

So when can you try the Cayman release?  Very soon.  We're actively working on getting it into your hands.  Stay tuned and let me know what you think about some of the above new features (click on the Add your own link below to leave me a comment).

'Til next time.
Tae

    Tae,
I've been using the old email link as that is the only way to view my mail, but now the link is taking me to the new suite! How can I use the old link and old system again please!?

The new mail is not loading. The page shows my folders, but email does not show up in the middle panel as shown on the examples I've seen. Is it because I'm on dial-up? Can't help that as broadband isn't in my area.

Is there a technical support line to call? Is there anyone at all to talk to? Is there anyone to sue for reprinting all our business stationary when we have to change emails?

Ever since opening our AOL last week and finding the "new AOL" - we have had
problems!  We CAN receive e-mails, however we CANNOT SEND, FORWARD
OR REPLY to any emails.  We were doing just fine before AOL installed this
new version - WHY.  What can we do to fix these problems.  We don't feel
we should have to subscribe to the $9.95 monthly fee in order to fix a
problem that was NOT our doing.  Rschl11185

I have an AOL personal account and an Earthlink business account.  Beginning late last week, AOL began bouncing back emails from Earthlink.  This is hurting my business because I cannot send confirmations (I own a Bed & Breakfast) to any customers with AOL accounts.  I cannot even send an email from Earthlink to my own AOL account, although I can still send from AOL to Earthlink.  Tae, I realize that you are not in charge of this issue, but I have been unable to get through to anyone else at AOL who might be able to help me.  Would you forward this message to the appropriate support person?  I would really appreciate it.  This problem, as I said, just started late last week.  We had never had problems before so I think AOL must have changed something and I need to know how to unchange it.  THANK YOU for your help!!  P.S.  We don't have problems sending emails from Earthlink to any other email accounts except AOL's.
