Reading emails in the same window and highlighted new features

Hi,

I know a small percentage of the users are still experiencing transition issues with the new version of the Web Suite but we’re making good progress on resolving them.  Not to diminish those issues any, but technical upgrade discussions are being handled here since it's so much easier for you to find topics of interest to you.  We have some great volunteers there who are helping with transition questions and I’m visiting there daily to help answer technical questions too.

For the majority of you who are not having issues, I wanted to resume normal product-feature-centric topics here.  Let me start by telling you about some great changes coming on Thursday, 6/14.  There are some fixes coming for Mac users who had trouble with spell checking, for ICQ 6 Tool bar users, better calendar handling, etc.

For US users only, you’ll also get a one-time click-through dialog box asking you to set your preference for reading/composing emails in the same window (faster) or popping out windows instead (the older way).  This will be shown just the first time you read or compose an email after Thursday and will set your preference.  I recommend reading/writing emails in the same window, because it’s faster, and as usual, you can always change your settings later.

I also want to remind you that there will be two great upcoming changes coming later this month: 1) unlimited storage for all your emails (AOL users have had this since 2005 and this is being enabled for AIM accounts too), and 2) a new AIM Panel (I've shown below where it'll go).  More on these topics in a separate entry, since there much to talk about.

Lastly, I want to elaborate on some of the items I wrote about before.  Since a picture is worth a thousand words, below is a screen shot of the Web Suite’s main screen with some highlights of the most important or not-so-obvious features.

A few of the benefits highlighted are:

Item #          Benefits

2           It's real easy to see just the emails you care about, such as the Unread ones, Answered ones, Flagged ones, etc.  Click the triangle there.

3           Move the column headers to the way you like it.  In an upcoming update, we’ll have the headers stay the way you like it, even when you log back in.  And you say you want to see the message size again?  It’s coming very soon!

7           An all new AIM Buddy List Panel, with full IM capabilities and an indication of whether your buddy is online or not, is coming soon and it’ll go here.

9             Place your mouse over the folder’s name and hold it there for a second.  The Edit link will appear next to it, allowing you to rename, empty, or delete the folder.

4             Tired of logging out of one account, then re-entering in your password each time?  Simply link them for faster access to all your accounts.

I hope you find this information helpful in getting more out of the new Web Suite.

PS: I know this picture is a bit busy, but I thought it was more important to convey the info in one picture.

PPS: More on this soon, but we're also making a "lite" version of the Web Suite for legacy computers, operating systems, and browsers that'll also work even better for dialup users.  Stay tuned.

‘Til next time,

Tae

    HI,
I'm using AOL mail on web. Starting last week I' m experiencing a real trouble using it at all. I have WIndows Vista and pretty powerfull comp with a lot of extra RAM installed.
After I sign in to my mail account and AOL is starting loading, IE freezes completely and the only way to solve the problem is to stop it running through Task Manager.
The CPU usages jumps up to 60% while AOL Mail is loading.
I  can still use AOL mail on Firefox without any problem. If it's IE issue, please check it out.
    Thanks.

I have not  been satisfied with the new AOL webmail system.  Since the change a handful of months ago, I very often have trouble loading my new messages.  The last few days have been especially difficult, and I have to cloes and reopen a new open window 7 or 8 times to get my new mail.  I sometimes even have to wait and come and try again hours later to get it to work.  I've tried giving it a chance because it has been newly updated, but given the trouble from this past week, I'm certainly not satisfied.

I cannot quite completely explain how much I hate the new AOL mail features.  It is like looking at US Magazine on steroids.  This is full of junk, ads which take a long time to load, and in general just clunky and not user friendly.  No wonder thousands of users are leaving and using gmail and other easier products.  Note to AOL staff:  you've been laggards in the tech area for many years and you're not getting better.  Just adding a bunch of color and graphics to your web site not not make is better!
