Two blonde girls were working for the city public works department. One would dig a hole and the other would follow behind her and fill the hole in. They worked up one side of the street, then down the other, then moved on to the next street, working furiously all day without rest, one girl digging a hole, the other girl filling it in again.

An onlooker was amazed at their hard work, but couldn't understand what they were doing. So he asked the hole digger, "I'm impressed by the effort you two are putting in to your work, but I don't get it -- why do you dig a hole, only to have your partner follow behind and fill it up again?"

The hole digger wiped her brow and sighed, "Well, I suppose it probably looks odd because we're normally a three-person team. But today the girl who plants the trees called in sick."

Hello,

I hope that everything is going well with you both. I apologize for not
getting back to you sooner. The past couple weeks have been crazy for us.
I don't know where the time has gone. I want to let you know what I
learned about the IP camera.

I did contact Deb about her camera. She is using a standard web cam.
That kind of camera does require that you have it connected to a computer
that is nearby. The cameras that I have been researching are called IP
cameras. They actually have their own processor. That means that they do
not have to be connected to a computer; they just need an Internet
connection. So, you connect it to the computer and configure it. Then you
disconnect it from the computer and connect it to the Internet using an
ethernet cable or a wireless connection.

The brand that I am most familiar with is the Intellinet which is
manufactured by IcIntracom. Their products have a lifetime warranty. I
found someone locally that has one of these in stock. It is $299 plus tax.
To use it outside, you have to purchase a housing for it. The housing
(heated and cooled) is $100 plus tax. If you use it wirelessly, you have
to modify the housing by drilling holes for the wireless antennas and then
patch the openings with silicone to keep out moisture.

Many things can cause the wireless signal to vary. If you try to use it
wirelessly, we would just have to connect it and see if it is in range
with your wireless router. If not, we can connect it to an ethernet
cable. I would recommend Cat6 cableing. The range on the cable should be
around 300 feet. Video signal is limited by distance. If you use cable,
it would be best to put it in a small pvc conduit. If not, the shielding
will degrade over time and the wires will eventually become exposed and
the signal will degrade. Also, without the conduit, you run the risk of a
squirrel or mouse chewing into the cable. The ethernet cable is usually
about $.25 per foot.

I am including a link below to a website that has an Intellinet brand
camera that is up and running. If you click on the view on the top right
it actually shows traffic on a highway in the Netherlands. There are
other cameras listed but not of all them are onall the time.

From what I have read, you are most likely going to have some frame delay
with just about any camera. So, there will be times when things will
appear a bit jumpy.

If you want me to pick up the camera, I will check to make certain that I
can return it if it does not suit you. I would install it on my laptop
and get it working and then bring it to you and sit it where you can view
your garden. We would test it to make certain that the wireless signal
will work from there. If not, we could go get an ethernet cable and
connect it to see how it looks. If it works, then we can order the
housing and the cable will need to be buried and the housing installed.

The Babies Are Hatching!

BIG NEWS!!!!

Those guinea eggs are now guinea keets! Here are some pictures. Dad standing close by and ever protective Mom.

I have been outside (MAN is it humid) putting up metal posts and stringing the black netting on the posts to give them a safe place. I am afraid the emus may stomp the babies if they see them running about.

They are SO CUTE!!!

You can see in the last picture one is dry and one is wet...so some are still hatching. :)

Did you know you can grow silkie chickens from seed? Look, here are some blooms opening right now...

Right before my eyes...another bloom opened!

Uh oh, this one is over ripe! It fell right off the plant! ;)
