Decoding the Tomato Catalog: VFN and other Fun Abbreviations

ByTomato Vanessa Richins

There’s a magical time in late winter when the new seed catalogs arrive.

As you peruse the glossy pages looking for tomatoes to grow, you may notice some abbreviations throughout the descriptions.

Just what are they trying to tell you?

The most common abbreviation you will see is VFN, or a combination of those letters. A plant with these designationshasbeenshown to be resistant to some very common tomato problems.

Time is so precious-do not waste it.

Good Morning.

Why don't we have the tea and coffee first this morning since it is ready?  I want you to walk right in and feel at home, and  try out what I have ready for you, and then we can get down to business.

I hope that all is well with you wherever you are in this world. I am feeling very good this morning, it seems that I have so much to be thankful for ,  and as I get nearer the end the more I think about it.

We did get the router working yesterday so I am having fun with a fast computer, it does make a difference. We postpone the thing that I would have liked todo, getting those tomatoesin the ground, but the weather is not right, it is not very cold butthe ground is soaked with so much rain in the last few days, so we are looking to do the job either friday or monday morning.

From Gardening made easy.

If you are having any trouble smiling this morning just click on the link below, and I know that you will smile, I tried to look at it and not smile and I just could not do it. DAD...

DAD'S TOMATO GARDEN PICTURE ALBUM.

This link above will let you watch the growth of a tomato plant from the time it is set out untill you see a big red tomato. DAD

So glad your router is solving your p.c. woes, Dad -- how I know what it's like not being able to do what you want on the computer each day!  And I hope the weather is just right for you to set your plants on one of the two days you've set up for that important event ;)

Very nice picture gallery so far!  But where are Ms. Mary and the lovely Princess?  And what about those wonderful roosters and hens?

Best to you all, and big PURRS from us out in California to the Tennessee Princess ^^

Good afternoon Dad. :) Did you think I fell off the face of the earth? LOL...I have been busy around here. Catching up on your journal since Saturdays entry. Glad you liked my pictures, you know you are always welcome to them anytime. :) I sure did enjoy the coffee this morning. Especially since it was COLD outside!!! What is that about anyway? Isnt it Spring?? I sure hope this is the last cold snap we have...I am so ready to get outside and play! ;) Glad you are feeling good. Maybe that is a sign that it is going to warm up. I know I always start to feel better the warmer it gets. I like the smile album, that is a cool idea. Y'all have a great day today, and I will see you in the morning. Love, Kelly
